After Naruto's return three years later, Neji's attire changed, adopting a more typical Hyūga Clan appearance. He wore a loose, long-sleeved white shirt, fastened with a single button, and matching white trousers. Around his waist, he wore a black sash-like accessory. He continued to wear his black headband, but removed the bandages on his limbs and the ribbon itself. He also changed his sandals for black ones. His hair grew longer, still tied back with a ribbon, but with two strands framing his face.

Neji's attitude shifted when his opponent insisted on not giving up and not taking back his words. Neji finally challenged him to prove it by defeating him, which Naruto did, saying he couldn't lose just because he'd been called a loser. Neji then understood that if a loser like Naruto could change his destiny, he, being a genius, could too. Along with Hiashi's revelation about the truth behind Hizashi's death and reading his father's last words, which asked him to defeat fate, Neji decided that whether there was a destiny or not, he would fight for whatever he wanted to change. The genius began to focus more on teamwork and on achieving, in the best way possible, both the completion of missions and the safety of his comrades. He stopped mocking others' efforts to improve and even helped his cousin train. Neji and Hiashi tried to mend the damaged relationships within the Main Branch, especially with Hinata, and in doing so, he managed to be trained by his uncle. Finally, Neji acknowledged the importance of perseverance, admitting that he lacked this quality as much as Rock Lee possessed it. He stated that if he had been in the same situation as his teammate after the Chūnin Exams, he most likely would have decided to quit being a ninja and see what else he could do with his life. Also, like his cousin, he took Naruto's words to heart and used them to motivate himself to keep fighting, no matter how tough the battle. Against Kidōmaru, he ultimately triumphed, claiming it was because Kidōmaru had called him a loser. From that moment on, he considered Naruto the one who had "freed" him from his "cage."
Following Naruto's return three years later, Neji continued his personal evolution, becoming a very calm and analytical person. His aversion to the exaggerated and energetic attitude of his master Might Guy and his teammate Lee has increased.

Unlike Tenten, she simply ignores them or tries to reason with them. Her hatred for the Main Branch has vanished; she now feels immense concern for Hinata, helping her with her training, encouraging her, and trusting her.

When Neji was four years old, a grand celebration was held to welcome envoys from the Land of Lightning to sign an alliance with Konoha. All the inhabitants attended, except for the Hyūga Clan, who did not participate, as it was a day commemorating the third birthday of Hinata Hyūga, the clan's heir. Hiashi was the twin brother of Hizashi, who was born seconds later, placing Neji, as Hizashi's son, in the branch family. That day, the two branches met. Neji met his cousin and remarked to his father that she was beautiful. Hiashi asked his brother to leave Neji with him for a while so he could place the Cursed Seal of the Hyūga Main Family on him. This seal would allow the main branch to kill him at will by destroying his brain cells, thus destining him for servitude and protection, turning him into a "caged bird." Days later, Neji and his father watched Hinata and Hiashi train. Hizashi explained to his son that his duty was to protect Hinata and the clan's secrets, but seeing Neji's innocence, his father activated his Byakugan, which Hiashi interpreted as an attempt to kill his niece. The head of the main branch stopped him by activating his brother's Cursed Seal and warning that this was the last time he would forgive him, reminding Neji not to forget his destiny. This brought tears to the boy's eyes and marked a change in his personality.
Later, the Ninja Chief of Kumogakure attempted to kidnap Hinata, but was killed by Hiashi. In retaliation, Kumo demanded the Hyūga Clan leader's body as compensation; secretly, it was decided that Hizashi would take his brother's place as tribute to quell the war, resulting in his brother's death. However, Hizashi had actually chosen to sacrifice himself for his brother and his home. This fact was kept from Neji, who believed he had been forced to surrender in place of the main branch. From a very young age, Neji was considered a natural genius. His father even stated that his potential far surpassed that of any other member of the Hyūga Clan, and his uncle remarked that of all the clan members, he had been blessed with the strongest bloodline. In Part I, he was known as the top rookie in his class, and even his teammate Tenten said he could easily become a Chunin despite being a rookie Genin. Furthermore, Rock Lee declared him the strongest Genin in the Chūnin Exams and asserted that he was the strongest in all of Konoha. Kakashi even expressed concern, as he never imagined there would be someone like him in the exams and declared that not even the Sasuke of that time would stand a chance against him.

Gaara also appeared uneasy watching someone of his caliber fight. Sakura, on the other hand, declared that he was far too strong, so much so that his strength seemed almost unfair. Great shinobi like Kakashi Hatake and Hiruzen Sarutobi admitted that it was normal to consider him a genius. In time, Neji was the only one of the Konoha 11 to achieve the rank of Chūnin and then Jōnin in just two and a half years.

To master the Gentle Fist, the user must have excellent control and mastery of the Chakra Circulation System. Neji was able to release chakra from each of his chakra points. Thanks to this, he could cut through chakra-based substances and even deflect projectiles. Continuously maintaining this chakra release allows him to detect anything entering his immediate area, but this rapidly depletes his chakra reserves, as seen during the battle against Kidōmaru. He was also able to control his chakra points in such a way that he could release chakra from any pore of his body and even from all of them simultaneously.

Neji Hyūga was an agile and swift shinobi, capable of fighting while simultaneously dodging enemy attacks, striking fluidly and continuously without giving his opponent time to react. The Gentle Fist of the Hyūga Clan is a fighting style based on the Byakugan that damages the internal chakra system or organs of the combatant with just a touch of the user's fingers. Neji, being a member of the Branch Family, was not entitled to learn the Hyūga's most powerful techniques, but with his intelligence, raw potential, and simple deduction, he was able to learn them and even develop new techniques based on the concepts of the Gentle Fist. His incisive chakra control allowed him to collapse a heart by releasing a massive amount of chakra.

As mentioned, Neji, being a member of the Branch Family, was forbidden from learning the Hyūga Clan's secret techniques, but he figured out how to use them simply through observation. He learned to use many of his clan's jutsu, such as the Eight Trigrams Return to Heaven Palm and the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms. Neji demonstrated the ability to use the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms effectively, as seen in his fight against Kidōmaru, where he used the strikes to deflect and defend against the attacks of the spiders summoned by his opponent.

From the moment he learned to use these techniques, he began to refine and improve each of these jutsu. Neji was trained by his uncle, Hiashi, who, as the leader of the Hyūga Clan, knew all the techniques. In Part II, he was able to use the Eight Trigrams Vacuum Palm, which allowed him to expel chakra from the palm of his hand to attack opponents beyond his physical reach. In the anime, he was able to increase the number of palm strikes in the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms technique by doubling it. Finally, he also collaborated with Hinata to create the Eight Trigrams Vacuum Wall Palm; he even learned to use the Gentle Fist Art: Full Body Strike to destroy an enemy when their body was immobilized.

As a member of the Hyūga Clan, Neji possessed his clan's Kekkei Genkai: the Byakugan. This Dōjutsu allowed him to see through solid objects and extend the range of his vision. Initially, it was 50 meters; in Part II, it increased to at least 800 meters. The Dōjutsu also granted him telescopic vision, allowing him to focus on a specific point, see the Chakra Circulation System of all bodies, and pinpoint chakra points with precision. Despite his extensive use of his Dōjutsu from a young age, he didn't usually keep it constantly active until the moment of combat, deactivating it on occasions that resulted in him being struck or captured when he could have anticipated it.

As a member of Team Guy and part of the Hyūga Clan, Neji was an expert in Taijutsu, which he used to create the Gentle Fist. However, if he didn't want to or didn't need to use chakra, Neji could fight hand-to-hand with ease. Thanks to the Byakugan's vision, combined with his inherent speed and agility, Neji was able to evade and counterattack many attacks coming from almost any direction, as seen when he fought against Naruto's clones or Kidōmaru's spiders and projectiles; however, an excessive number of attacks could cause many to enter his blind spot. Because he focused on Taijutsu, he was vulnerable to long-range combat. After becoming a Jōnin, Neji further emphasized his close-quarters combat with his Clan's techniques, training in other long- and mid-range techniques as well.

Neji's stamina was very high, to the point that he could run and perform a powerful attack despite being exhausted and having two mortal wounds on his body.

Considered a natural genius and the top rookie in his class, Neji possessed great ingenuity. He was able to understand and master powerful jutsu of his clan on his own simply by observing them, even though these techniques were not supposed to be taught to the Branch Family. Thanks to his talent, he was able to rise through the ranks to Jōnin in just a few years. He demonstrated a great understanding of the body and its anatomy, being able to locate and strike chakra points in the middle of a battle, something that surprised even Kakashi. He developed his Byakugan independently. Thanks to his intelligence, he could analyze any situation and then counter it, earning him the captain position on several missions. He also demonstrated knowledge of high-level techniques, such as recognizing that the Kamui technique was a Sharingan technique.

The Naruto universe is a fantasy world inspired by feudal Japan, featuring hidden villages, ninjas, supernatural techniques, and legendary creatures. Society revolves around large ninja villages, each linked to a different country and ruled by a Kage. The main villages are Konoha (Leaf), Suna (Sand), Kiri (Mist), Kumo (Cloud), and Iwa (Rock).
Ninjas are warriors trained from childhood to carry out missions, protect their villages, and fight other shinobi. They use chakra, an energy produced by combining physical and spiritual energy. Chakra allows them to perform techniques called jutsu. These include ninjutsu, which utilizes elements and supernatural abilities; genjutsu, which alters the senses and perception; and taijutsu, based on physical combat. There are also abilities inherited by certain clans, known as kekkei genkai, such as the Sharingan, the Byakugan, or special elemental techniques.
Clans are of immense importance. Each possesses its own traditions, skills, and history of conflict. Among the most prominent are the Uchiha, Hyuga, Senju, Nara, Akimichi, Yamanaka, Aburame, and Inuzuka.
The world is also inhabited by enormous chakra-infused beasts called Bijū. There are nine legendary creatures, each possessing immense power. Some people can become their vessel, known as jinchūriki, and receive a portion of their strength.
The story is marked by wars, clan rivalries, criminal organizations, and conflicts. Ninjas rise from Academy students to genin, chūnin, and jōnin, and some reach positions of great authority.
There are also samurai, mercenaries, feudal lords, and independent regions. Although technology is limited compared to modern times, the world combines traditional weapons, ninja tools, and supernatural phenomena. It is a world where willpower, bonds, chakra, and legacy determine much of life. Honor matters a great deal.
