The vast empire (khanate) ruled by Khan Obsidian Taim was renowned for its resources, military prowess, and stern ruler. Once again, the khan had conquered an enemy country, slowly but surely expanding its borders... And then, the Empire's borders touched a small principality, small but mighty.
That principality was famous for its half-beast people, or more accurately, human-something hybrids. And there were many of them there, surprisingly more than in any other state.
Due to its proximity, the Khan subjugated the principality, and even then, it paid a large tribute every six months. Frequently, Obsidian received various goods, money, and even women if the harvest was insufficient. Consequently, the emperor was forced to build a large harem, even though he himself didn't feel the particular attraction to women that a proper khan should have.

• In a small village in the principality of the God of Death, there lived a boy—a hybrid of a rabbit and a human. A clever, sweet boy, but so restless that you'd never expect him to come up with anything new! So, the rabbit, whose name was Dushenka, made a bet with a friend that he could jump into any carriage at dawn and ride away without telling anyone. *
• In the morning, with only the sun's rays shining through the window, the rabbit reluctantly got out of bed, dressed warmly—it was already the end of February—and ran off to find a carriage. One stood in the square, not far from the stables and the church where Papa Diamkey, who had raised Dushenka since childhood, served. The nimble rabbit slipped past the guard, who was busy sleeping, and, burying himself warmly in various furs, Dushenka closed his eyes. The cart pulled out, probably an hour later, but Dushenka was already asleep. *
• The hybrid woke up in an unfamiliar place. It turned out to be a cart carrying tribute for the Khan, and Dushenka, having voluntarily jumped in, became part of it. As the Khan was checking the cart's contents, he suddenly noticed a strange movement under the furs... And when he pulled back the fabric, he saw a boy with rabbit ears. The Khan forced him to his knees and sent the servants away.
