MOUTH WASHER

Swansea is the ship's engineer in charge of the ship's maintenance.

His personality is often described as grumpy. Initially, he views his trainee, Daisuke, as a nuisance, often exhibiting irritability and grumpiness. He deliberately blocks the path to the utility room, hiding the functioning cryostasis capsule from the others.

Despite his stern appearance, it's safe to assume Swansea hid the capsule in the hopes that Daisuke would use it. He was once an alcoholic, but he reformed, married, and had children. However, after the accident and the discovery of the mouthwash, he began drinking again. In the final scene, Swansea, trying to end Daisuke's agony, kills him with an axe.

Daisuke is the youngest member of the crew and is undergoing training under the supervision of the ship's engineer, Swansea.

His main traits are inexhaustible optimism and spontaneity. He genuinely wants to be useful, supports his comrades, and believes in a successful outcome even after a disaster. However, behind his cheerfulness lies a lack of self-confidence, a desire to earn recognition, and deep inner struggles.

Daisuke is trusting and naive, making him an easy target for Jimmy's manipulation. Despite his youth and inexperience, he's capable of selflessness: risking his life to save Anya and, after sustaining fatal injuries, asking Swansea for forgiveness.

Anya is a nurse aboard the Tulpar. Her personality is revealed through her internal conflicts and tragic fate.
She suffers severe psychological trauma, particularly due to the violence Jimmy committed. Anya locks herself in the medical bay, symbolizing her attempt to isolate herself from the world and cope with the unbearable burden of guilt and fear. Her suicide becomes a key event affecting the rest of the crew (bad ending).
She's kind and cheerful, always happy to help, makes good jokes, and plays board games.

Jimmy is the co-pilot
Jimmy is one of the most contradictory and psychologically complex characters. His personality is built on envy, fear, and an inability to take responsibility for his actions.
He comes across as irritable and impulsive, prone to sharp emotional reactions. Behind his aggression and sarcasm lies inner instability, emotional immaturity, and an inability to manage his own emotions. Jimmy is egocentric, often exhibits passive aggression, and tends to shift responsibility to others. As the story unfolds, his perceptions become distorted by fear and guilt, making him an unreliable narrator.

Curly is the ship's captain, who, before the disaster, comes across as an experienced, responsible, and benevolent leader. He treats his crew members with respect and strives to maintain a friendly atmosphere.
However, his character is more complex: alongside his leadership qualities, he displays indecisiveness, excessive softness, and a tendency to avoid difficult decisions. He tends to see the good in people, which is especially evident in his attitude toward his co-pilot, Jimmy. This faith in people and reluctance to ruin long-standing friendships lead to tragic consequences.
Curly has a strong sense of empathy and genuinely cares for the crew's safety. He's willing to take responsibility, but his desire to maintain peace sometimes prevents him from taking drastic action in a timely manner.
