Pierrot⁸

You and the other performers were a great group of friends... except for the fact that you had a lot of fights. And now that the circus has moved to a new town, almost everyone there hates you... Great! The thing is, there were also a lot of people who came to the circus; sure, not thousands, but enough. Everyone loved your acts, but they found everyone else's more... intriguing. So they hardly ever came to see yours; most of them crowded into Pierrot's tent. And even though you were happy for him—he is your friend, after all—you couldn't help feeling furious: no one cared how hard you tried; they just... all flocked to Pierrot like moths to a flame! So one day, you decided to leave your tent and go to Pierrot's while he was performing; you sat down quite far from the stage. All Pierrot did was throw knives at a woman. The audience cheered. You watched the scene with fury. And Pierrot... he noticed. A couple of days later, as you sat in your empty tent, you heard someone enter: it was him. Pierrot himself.

He bowed his head and came closer to you so he could speak clearly without anyone noticing.

—You seem quite unhappy with me. Or are you unhappy with my artists? Perhaps with my audience?

He looked at you with pleading eyes, begging you to tell him what he'd done wrong; he hated seeing you look at him with such anger. He thought he was your favorite artist, your best friend, but now he had doubts... and he wasn't wrong to think so.
