Most of the time they look like classic white bones — long, sharp, and clean. They can appear from the ground, fly through the air, or form walls/cages.

Special Colored Bones:

• Red bones: Commonly used in more aggressive attacks (especially when he throws them or creates zones). They look slightly thicker and have a glowing red tint.
• Blue bones: Same as classic Sans — you must stay still when they pass.
• Orange bones: Same as classic Sans — you must move through them.

The Gaster Blasters used by Sudden Changes Sans look mostly like the classic ones, but they are slightly larger than normal and painted (or tinted) red. The skull has the same dragon-like shape with the wide open jaw, glowing eyes, and horn-like protrusions, but the entire body has a deep red or crimson color scheme instead of the usual white/gray. Some fan depictions also give them sharper edges or a more aggressive look to match the “American” overkill vibe.

How it fires:
When activated, the Gaster Blaster opens its jaw wide. A bright red (or white-with-red) magic laser beam charges up for a short moment, then fires in a continuous, powerful stream. The beam is thicker and more intense than classic Sans’s blasters. It can be aimed freely, fired in a straight line, or used in groups. In Phase 2 (mech form), the blasters can also be mounted on or fired from the red mech itself for even heavier barrages.

The “American Sans” label is 100% a fandom meme that exploded after the popular FDY fangame (the one with the gun fight and Phase 2 mech).

The real story:

• In the original Sudden Changes AU (by Spouting/Leo), Sans is just a more talkative, coffee-drinking scientist. The gun only appears very late in the genocide route as a last resort.
• Then the FDY fangame made him pull out a shotgun/revolver right away, drink coffee constantly, and later climb into a giant red war machine with missiles and miniguns.

From that point on, every meme, animation, and Roblox version treated him as the ultimate

So no, the original AU never said he was American…
but the fandom collectively decided that a skeleton with a shotgun and a coffee addiction is the most American thing possible, and the nickname stuck forever.

Sudden Changes Sans keeps the core of the original Sans personality but amplifies and twists it through constant caffeine and a much more proactive attitude. He is still lazy at heart and loves to make terrible puns, especially ones involving guns, bullets, coffee, or sudden changes. However, the coffee makes him significantly more energetic, talkative, and quick to act. He speaks almost entirely in lowercase letters and frequently uses words like “heh”, “kid”, “buddy”, and “pal”. His sarcasm is sharper and his dark humor comes out faster when things get tense. Deep down he remains extremely protective of his brother Papyrus and the other monsters of the Underground. As long as the human acts friendly or neutral he stays relatively relaxed, sipping coffee and cracking jokes. The moment he detects real genocidal intent or repeated hostility, his demeanor shifts almost instantly. The lazy grin becomes colder, the red eye lights up, and he starts treating the situation with deadly seriousness while still throwing the occasional joke. In Phase 2 the laziness nearly disappears; he becomes focused, military-like, and fully committed to ending the threat with overwhelming firepower. Even while sitting inside a giant red mech raining missiles, he may still make a dry comment about how the coffee is getting cold. This mix of caffeine-fueled energy, protective loyalty, and sudden lethal seriousness is the heart of his character.

When Sudden Changes Sans enters his Phase 2, also known as his Mech form, the transformation is dramatic and over-the-top. He climbs into or sits atop a gigantic red mechanical war machine whose main body is designed to look like a massive, exaggerated version of Sans’s own skull, painted entirely in deep crimson red. The mech is heavily armored and runs on thick tank-style treads that allow it to move with surprising speed despite its size. The entire surface of the machine is covered in an absurd amount of weaponry: multiple missile launchers mounted on the shoulders and back, dual or quad miniguns on the sides, rocket pods, extra gun barrels, and sometimes even a large central cannon. Some versions also include a deployable energy forcefield that can surround the entire mech for temporary protection. Sans himself is usually visible sitting in an open cockpit on top of or inside the red skull head, still holding his coffee mug and looking completely serious. The overall silhouette is loud, intimidating, and deliberately excessive, looking like something a caffeine-crazed skeleton would build after deciding that a regular shotgun was no longer enough. When this form activates, the atmosphere of the fight changes completely from a classic bullet-hell duel into a full-scale mechanical assault filled with explosions, missile trails, and endless streams of bullets.

In his base Phase 1 form, Sudden Changes Sans retains the classic short and stocky skeleton build of the original Sans, standing at the same height with the same round skull, black eye sockets, and wide grin. However, his posture is noticeably more upright and alert rather than the usual hunched and sleepy stance. He wears an oversized blue jacket or long coat that reaches down toward his slippers, a simple white t-shirt underneath, black shorts with white stripes on the sides, and the iconic pink slippers. Some depictions also give him a blue bowtie for a slightly more formal look. The most distinctive features are the two items he almost never puts down: a white or ceramic mug filled with steaming hot coffee held in his left hand, and a firearm held in his right hand. The gun is most commonly shown as a double-barreled shotgun, though many fans also portray it as a heavy revolver inspired by the Empty Gun item from Undertale. When he becomes serious or enters combat, his left eye socket glows with a bright, intense red light instead of the usual blue or yellow.
