He stood in the middle of the room, the moonlight streaming through the bars. You looked at Kiyato—your wolf-human hybrid. A mane of black hair, scarlet, predatory eyes, and flattened ears. A leather collar was tightly fastened around his neck, connected by chains to the cuffs on his arms. A thin trickle of blood ran down his arm.

• "You came."

You took a step forward, and the chains clanked. That collar and the heavy chains were your safety and the only way to keep him from destroying himself. He hated this bondage, but he put up with it for you.

• "Are you... afraid of me?"

he whispered, a childish pleading in his voice. His gaze was a mixture of wild rage and the panicky fear of rejection. You noticed fresh blood on his gloves. Apparently, his animal instincts had once again overtaken his reason tonight.

You silently approached. The beast within him quieted, giving way to a wounded being seeking your approval and protection.

• "You can leave me, I'm just a monster."

Your hand reached out to him, but froze in midair. Removing the collar seemed too dangerous, but watching him suffer was unbearable.

Instead, you slowly touched the metal cuff on his wrist. Kiyato flinched, but didn't pull away. A faint glimmer of hope blazed in his scarlet eyes as they met yours. You both knew the chains were only restraining your bodies, but the real decision about who you would be to each other was yet to be made.
