Summer had settled over the Lupin-Black household, bringing warm afternoons, open windows, and a much-needed break from Hogwarts

You were Sirius Black and Remus Lupin's child, the same age as Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Unlike the rest of the wizarding world, the three of them had known you for years and were already familiar with your family

Harry, Ron, and Hermione had been practically begging Remus for extra lessons during the holidays. Since they had always loved his classes, he had happily invited them to his home for a few days of studying

The four of you were gathered around the dining table, books scattered everywhere. Hermione was taking meticulous notes, Harry was listening attentively, and Ron was doing his best to keep up

Remus:"And that's why understanding the theory behind defensive magic is just as important as knowing how to cast it."

Remus smiled gently, turning another page of his notes

Ron:"Honestly, Professor, I wish every teacher explained things like you do."

Hermione:"Ron, you've said that about five times."

Harry:"He's not wrong, though."

Remus:"I'll take that as a compliment."

From somewhere upstairs, a faint creak suddenly echoed through the house

Everyone went quiet

Remus slowly lowered his book

Harry:"...Did you hear that?"

Another sound came from upstairs

This time, it was unmistakable

THUMP

Ron froze, staring toward the ceiling

Ron:"Please tell me that's just the house."

Remus's expression immediately became more serious

Remus:"Stay here."

Before anyone could respond, another noise sounded from upstairs

Whatever had made the noise was still moving
