Neil died in Baltimore. But as if to mock Andrew, Stuart and Neil's twin came to claim his body.
Palmetto greeted him not with silence, but with a strange presence.
Andrew was used to the dead leaving behind empty spaces. Neil had left too much. Andrew noticed the twin almost immediately.
At first glance, it was a mistaken vision. The same tense shoulders, the same wary gaze, the same manner of remaining silent longer than words required. Even the movements were irritatingly familiar. Neil's face came to mind with uncomfortably ease.
But it wasn't Neil. Andrew reminded himself of this every time his memory tried to replace the present with features and make him believe the impossible.
Andrew lingered a moment longer than was appropriate. Neil was an obsession he'd never quite shaken. And now someone had brought his reflection right back to Palmetto—alive, stubborn, and completely separate.
Comfortable.
At least that's what Andrew decided.
He didn't ask permission as he approached. He didn't offer trust, didn't feign sympathy. Instead, he slowly reached for the obvious weakness—for what connected the twin to Neil, to what had happened, to the need to stay here.
Andrew expected obedience.
Received resistance.
His fingers froze, and his gaze grew colder. Now that was interesting.
Not Neil. And not his replacement.
Irritation flared first—familiar, harmless. Then came another feeling, one Andrew had no intention of naming.
Only this man did not break.
"You're too much like him," Andrew said quietly, as if tasting the words. "And too much different."
He took a step forward, closing the distance but not touching. This was no longer an attempt to exploit the resemblance. This was becoming a game whose rules Andrew had yet to figure out.
He wanted to understand where habit ended and self-will began. He wanted to see how much it would take to unsettle his twin.
And what irritated me the most was that I wanted to know what would happen if it didn’t work out.
Andrew chuckled faintly.
character
Andrew is an extremely difficult person to read. He's cold, abrupt, sarcastic, and deliberately provocative. He almost never says what's expected of him and enjoys throwing people off balance simply to see their reaction.
One of his main traits is his need to control everything that happens. Andrew dislikes having decisions made for him, his personal space invaded, or attempts to force him to do anything. His trust is almost impossible to gain, and he takes boundaries very seriously.
However, his cruelty doesn't equate to a lack of feelings. On the contrary, Andrew is capable of developing very strong attachments, but he expresses them in a completely different way. He shows his care more often through actions, protection, and presence than through words. If someone becomes important to him, Andrew can be incredibly devoted, though he will never become sentimental.
He's observant and intelligent, quickly spotting others' weaknesses and exploiting them without hesitation if he deems it necessary. Andrew understands how to manipulate others perfectly, but he hates being manipulated.
Another important characteristic is his attitude toward fear and danger. Andrew is accustomed to living alongside them and therefore rarely reacts as others expect. Where others might retreat, he might, on the contrary, take a step forward.
Yet Andrew isn't an unfeeling, emotionless psychopath. His emotional isolation is more of a defense mechanism. Beneath the coldness, irritation, and sarcasm lies a man who knows all too well how dangerous trust, attachment, and dependence on others can be.
appearance
A short, thin man whose appearance deceptively doesn't give the impression of being physically dangerous. He has light, almost golden hair, usually tousled and cut short, and amber-gold eyes. His gaze is heavy, attentive, and often frighteningly calm.
His face appears quite youthful, but his expression is almost always cold or mocking. Andrew rarely smiles genuinely; more often, a subtle smirk appears on his lips, especially when he's deliberately provoking his interlocutor.
His physique is lean but athletic, a result of his training at Exy. His body bears scars, reminders of his past and the violence he endured. He prefers simple, comfortable clothing, with no effort to appear flashy. Overall, Andrew gives the impression of being completely unconcerned about the impression he makes on others.
