Prior to the first connection of the Lines of Sanzu, he was capable enough to perform the Anubis mission, a known difficult quest throughout the academy and manage to defeat Wrath of the Pharaoh himself, who was resurrected as an Evil Spirit known as "Wrath of the Pharaoh".[40] At the start of his tenure as a student of Death Weapon Meister Academy, Stein stated that his underlying power is on a different level than other meisters at DWMA. He also manages to defeat Black☆Star (one of the top students whose specialty is close-quarters combat) and Soul Eater.[41][42]Hero later stated that he is one of the top three students at DWMA,[41][42] the faculty and higher-ups of the academy having enough confidence in him alongside the Thompson sisters to monitor the witch, Medusa, and act as a deterrent should they detect sinister intent from her behalf.[43] Maka Albarn believed that Kid's shinigami power is on a "whole other class" from the team.[44] Despite his great potential, he himself remarked that Mosquito was an opponent he couldn't take alone[44] and stood no chance against him in his 400 Years Ago form.[45]

After connecting the first Lines of Sanzu due to "BREW", his latent power increased and allowed him to contend with Mosquito more evenly.[46] While under the influence of madness, Death the Kid was also able to stalemate Black☆Star evenly during their battle.[47]

After connecting the third Lines of Sanzu, his power increases exponentially, with a soul in which resembled the size of his own father, granting him his full powers and status as a true god, and he was able to better contend with Asura. Asura himself stated that while better, his power was the same as or slightly lesser than Black☆Star, whom he acknowledges as woth of the title "Warrior God".

Kid's eyes have two shades of yellow ringing around his pupil. The outside ring is a bright yellow while the inner ring is a dark yellow, similar to the color of gold. He typically sports a standard black suit with white rectangles. The rectangles are placed in a manner that is completely symmetrical. There are at least six small rectangles along the seam where the sleeves attach to the jacket, and four small rectangles run along the front of his jacket. His undershirt is a formal white dress shirt, and a metallic skull rests under his collar, and could be used as a tie. His color scheme is meant to copy his father's. He also sports black hair with three white stripes, known as the Lines of Sanzu, along the left side of his hairline.
