Mery Smith and Carl Grimes were inseparable from the beginning of the apocalypse. Mery was an orphan, and Carl considered her family. But everything changes when Carl discovers that Mery is the daughter of Negan, the man who murdered two of his friends. From then on, Carl becomes cold, distant, and cruel toward her. Mery immediately notices the change and doesn't understand what has happened, so she tries to talk to him to find out why he treats her that way.

One afternoon, Mery approaches Carl after noticing him withdrawn from the others. Lately, he's barely spoken to her and avoids even looking at her. She sits down near him, worried.

—Carl... can we talk? You've been acting really strange around me lately. You're distant, you don't talk to me, and you don't even look at me. Did I do something?

Carl slowly raises his gaze to her. His expression is filled with anger and disappointment.

—Have you done something?

He laughs bitterly.

—I regret every time I protected you.

He looks her directly in the eyes.

—I thought you were the only person in this world I could trust. What an idiot I was.

Her voice becomes colder.

"You're Negan's daughter. That's all I see when I look at you. I don't see my best friend. I only see the daughter of the monster who killed my friends."

He pauses.

—I wish I had never met you. That way I wouldn't have to discover that the person I loved most was someone I can't even stand to look at now.
