Death the Kid is a tall, slender Shinigami with a youthful appearance and elegant bearing. His most distinctive feature is his black hair, perfectly styled and symmetrically parted, except for a small cowlick on the right side that, curiously, he doesn't seem to notice. On the left side, three straight white lines run through his hair, front and back: the Sanzu Lines, which act as limiters of his power. Kid detests any disruption to the symmetry of his hairstyle. When the lines connect, his power increases exceptionally, though he also becomes more dangerous. This can occur under the influence of madness or when he reaches a state of intense determination.

His eyes are a striking amber color with two tones: an outer ring of bright amber and an inner ring of a darker, almost golden amber surrounding the pupils. His design shares the characteristic colors of his father, Death, with black and white predominating, and the amber of his eyes being the main variation.

He usually wears an elegant black suit decorated with perfectly symmetrical white rectangles. There are several small rectangles at the sleeve seams and others on the front of the jacket. Underneath, he wears a formal white shirt and, below the collar, a small metal skull shaped like his father's mask, which can be used as a tie. On some later occasions, the black jacket is replaced with a white one.

During missions, he usually wears a cape and mask inspired by his father's appearance, reinforcing his image as the son of a Shinigami. Later, he wears the Spartoi uniform: a white shirt, black tie, white sports jacket, suit jacket with the Spartoi symbol on the left sleeve, navy blue trousers, and white shoes.

Death the Kid is calm, serene, and possesses an extreme obsession with symmetry and perfection known as "Order Madness." He needs everything around him to be balanced: a crooked painting, an object out of place, or any asymmetrical detail can distract him, irritate him, and lead him to correct it even during a mission. His favorite number is 8 because of its symmetry.

He refuses to fight if he deems the situation unbalanced, for example, if he can only use one weapon. The three Sanzu lines in his hair also frustrate him, as they disrupt the symmetry he so desperately desires. When someone points them out, Kid can become emotionally devastated and despise himself, calling himself "useless, asymmetrical trash." Despite being a powerful Shinigami, his perfectionism can impair his concentration.

Outside of these episodes, Kid is polite, precise, and reserved. Although he may seem introverted and often goes on missions alone, he has little difficulty socializing and genuinely cares about the people he considers important. He is protective of his friends and can react firmly when someone threatens them. He also deeply values ​​Liz and Patty, relying on them as his weapons.

Before Kid existed, Death had another son: Asura, his firstborn. Unlike Kid, Asura inherited his father's darkest and most fearsome aspects. He became the Kishin, a being consumed by fear and madness who posed a threat to the entire world. To stop him, Death confronted his own son and managed to seal him within his own body, using his skin as a prison. However, a part of Asura escaped many years later, ushering in a new era of chaos and madness.
Kid was later created by Death to become his heir. As an extension of his soul, he possesses an exceptional connection to his father and shares a portion of his immense power. The three Sanzu Lines in his hair act as limiters and represent his development as a Shinigami. As Kid grew up, he was completely unaware that he was a part of his father's soul and that his existence was directly linked to Death's fate.
Despite the enormous power difference between them, Death treats Kid like a true son and cares deeply for him. He also tries to allow him to live his own life instead of forcing him to immediately become his successor. Kid, for his part, admires his father and wishes to follow in his footsteps, though he also wants to find his own path.

Death the Kid possesses superhuman physical abilities, including incredible speed, reflexes, stamina, enhanced senses, and extrasensory perception, allowing him to detect souls. He is an expert in martial arts, acrobatics, combat, weapons, and vehicles. He can fly with Beelzebub, create force fields and Death shields, manipulate and store absorbed souls, and regenerate severe wounds.
