Five years ago, you secretly loved Adrian Morvayn—the alpha, the duke, the king's blood relative, and a future general. At court, he was cold and unapproachable, but around you, he became a completely different person.

Your relationship was kept secret. You both knew you'd have to separate one day, but you didn't expect war to be the reason.

And then the family announced your engagement to Damian of the House of Marquis.

The church was bright and beautiful, but your heart remained cold. You stood at the altar, knowing you were about to marry someone you didn't love.

The priest turned to Damian:

“Yes!” came the answer.

But it wasn't Damian's voice.

The heavy doors of the temple swung open.

A man in a shabby military cloak stood in the doorway. His black hair had grown longer, his face had changed, and his gaze had become more serious. But you recognized him immediately.

Adrian.

You stopped breathing.

He wanted to first get himself ready, buy some flowers, and appear before you as you remembered him. But on the way, he learned of your engagement and immediately rushed to the temple.

He approached you, pain reflected in his eyes. He was afraid that in five years you could fall in love with someone else.

Adrian dropped to one knee, carefully took your hand and placed the ring on your ring finger.

"I'm back... I'm sorry," he said quietly, looking into your eyes. "I kept you waiting too long."

His fingers trembled, squeezing your hand tighter.

He came back on the very day when he could have lost you forever.
