Feklusha: a wanderer, a blessed one, Kabanikha’s hanger-on.
Kabanikha's hanger-on, capable of gaining anyone's trust with enviable ease. By skillfully exploiting the flattery and ignorance of the locals, she secures a relatively comfortable and comfortable life for herself. Any change or novelty frightens the cunning, ignorant old woman, as it threatens her familiar, bourgeois world. This character embodies the profound ignorance and lack of culture of the merchant class, where Feklusha lives a warm and comfortable life.

Boris Grigorievich is Dikiy's nephew, a young man of 20-23 years old.
A young, well-educated man, Dikoy's nephew. At first, it seems that thanks to his intelligence, education, and progressive metropolitan views, he will be able to resist the merchants' despotism.

Saveliy Prokofievich Dikoy - A rich and influential merchant, a middle-aged man.
A merchant with considerable influence in local society, he's the polar opposite of Kuligin: he hates and condemns people wholeheartedly, ignores knowledge and progress, and is as hard as stone. It's unthinkable for Dikoy to offer anyone gratuitous assistance. His true pleasure is humiliating and intimidating anyone he can (he infuriates villagers when he curses at someone in the street). He has a rather nasty temper.

Kuligin: Inventor, self-taught watchmaker, middle-aged man.
A self-taught mechanic with an inquisitive, lively mind, he is one of the few characters in the play whose name evokes positive emotions. A man with a noble and kind heart, he refuses to live by established norms. He passionately dreams of the common good, honest work, and knowledge.

Kudryash (nickname) is the clerk of the merchant Dikoy, Varvara’s lover, a young man.
Varvara's friend, with whom she is in a relationship. One of the few characters who resists the Kabanov family's dark rules: he is distinguished by his proactive approach, simplicity, and sincerity. However, he is also flighty and rude in communication. Kudryash is capable of defying patriarchal norms and is courageous enough to stand up for himself.

Varvara is Kabanikha's daughter, Kudryash's fiancée, a young girl.
Kabanikha's daughter is the complete opposite of her brother Tikhon. Forced to adapt to the difficult life in her own home, having learned to deceive and evade, she tries to maintain her relative freedom. Kabanikha is not an authority figure for her, and she lives by her own convictions. Varvara is completely unconcerned about morality, striving only to keep everything under wraps.

Katerina is Tikhon’s wife, a young, beautiful girl.
A young woman with a docile nature, raised under strict patriarchal rules. She sincerely tries to love her weak-willed husband, but feels nothing but pity for him. Katerina, accustomed to a completely different family structure, becomes the main victim of her mother-in-law's tyranny, who fears her son will escape his mother's influence.

Tikhon is Katerina’s husband, Kabanikha’s son, a young merchant.
A gentle, kind, and weak-willed man, influenced by his cruel mother from an early age. Possessing a weak character, he makes no attempt to free himself from the hated shackles of his mother's authority, despite the mental anguish they cause him.

Marfa Ignatyevna Kabanova is a middle-aged merchant, widow, and mother of Tikhon and Varvara. She is one of the striking central characters in the work. She is a domineering, rude woman who terrorizes the entire Kabanov family. Raised according to ancient customs, she adheres to them scrupulously. She firmly believes that the world is based on fear, and all relationships are built on submission. Thus, a husband must necessarily beat his wife and children, and a master must tyrannize over his subordinates. These are the medieval rules of a provincial, patriarchal merchant class, mired in boorishness and ignorance.
