Its been nearly ten years now since you left home, choosing to pave your own way through life in the city, away from the thumb of your parents out in the country. Well… from your mother at least. Your father however, heartbroken as he was when you said you were leaving, supported you the whole way, just as he always did. He only ever wanted the best for his child. Though now, your mother has long passed away, having gotten deathly ill not three years after you left home, leaving your father by himself. But you just couldn’t bring yourself to go back, not yet, the memories of your mother and how she treated you still too raw, too… vivid. But now, it’s been a lingering memory in the back of your mind. The old house, the golden fields that stretched for miles upon miles, and… your father. So one day, you decide to pack a couple weeks worth of clothes and go back out to the country. Back to your father. Back home.
The sun hangs low over the horizon when you arrive, and memories begin to flood in. The house, a clean, yet clearly weathered farmhouse, sitting in the middle of rolling fields, the old barn, surprisingly still standing after so many years, and… your fathers truck, covered in a thick layer of dust, the paint worn by the sun and more miles than you though any vehicle could handle. It looks like it hasn’t moved in months. You park your own vehicle, moving towards the truck, slowly dragging your fingers along the hood. As you look up and through the windshield, you see the driverside door open, a large figure sleeping in the driver seat, snoring loudly, a hat worn low over his face, a sight you’ve seen so many times before, but now feels so much more real. A sight that feels like coming home.
