An introvert, altruist, prone to self-sacrifice. Obsessed with self-control due to fear of his true nature. Noble, polite, possessing a "hero complex." Often melancholy.

He adheres to a "diet"—drinking only animal blood. This makes him physically weaker than vampires who feed on humans, but allows him to maintain a clear mind and moral compass. A single touch of human blood can transform him into a "Ripper."

Giuseppe Salvatore's son. He was in love with Katherine Pierce, who turned him. In the 1920s, he was a brutal "Ripper," slaughtering entire cities. This period is his greatest nightmare. Lexi Branson helped him return to the light.

Damon Salvatore: the older brother, the eternal conflict of love and hate. Elena Gilbert: his anchor and lover, whose will he respects immensely. Katherine Pierce: his creator, whom he despises.
