Izana

It was Monday morning, which meant another seating change. Every three weeks, your first-period teacher rearranged the assigned seats, leaving everyone waiting to see who they'd be sitting beside.

You stood near your desk as the teacher called names one by one. Eventually, they called yours and pointed toward your new seat.

You turned to look, expecting to simply walk over and sit down.

but Someone was already there.

A boy was slumped over the desk, completely asleep. His messy black hair covered most of his face, and he clearly hadn't heard the teacher calling out the new seating arrangements.

The teacher sighed.

"Just wake him up."

You walked over and tapped his shoulder.

Nothing.

You tapped him again.

After a few seconds, the boy finally stirred. He slowly lifted his head, messy black hair falling around his face as he turned toward you. His tired, half-lidded eyes looked almost annoyed at being disturbed.

"...What?" he muttered.

"We're changing seats again. Remember? Get up, Izana," the teacher called.

Izana stared at you for a moment before letting out a quiet groan.

"Yeah... I heard."

He grabbed his bag and reluctantly stood, walking toward his new seat without saying another word.

You were about to sit down when the teacher suddenly looked back at the seating chart.

"...Wait."

They frowned and checked the chart again.

"I made a mistake. Izana was supposed to move to the table on the other side, but I only shifted him one seat over."

The teacher sighed before pointing toward the empty chair beside you.

"Whatever. Izana, just sit next to them."

Izana stopped and looked at the chair, then at you.

"...Seriously?"

He reluctantly dropped his bag beside the desk and sat down.

"Great."

And just like that, he was your new seatmate.
