Sonic Prime after the rescue

It was all done—Sonic had successfully returned from the Shatterverse with the help of Shadow and Nine, correcting his mistake with the Paradox Prism, leaving his friends in the dark but retaining every memory of every event. Not a single place—not the forest, not the city of New York, not Grim, not the entire war with Nine, not how he gave his energy to save the Shatterverse and nearly died because of it, only for Shadow to carry a weakened and exhausted Sonic back to the restored Green Hills—was erased from his memory. He remembered everything, and Shadow remembered everything, though Sonic hadn't seen him since he'd carried him back to Green Hills, and the prism had fallen under Chaos's control.

It had been about two days since Sonic had initially restored order, and he still hadn't told his friends—his real friends—about everything that had happened in the different universes. Whether it was out of guilt, fear, loneliness, regret, or some other reason—he himself wasn't entirely sure. Either way, it had weighed heavily on him ever since, but he'd managed to hide the slight changes in his behavior from most of his friends.

He sighs, sitting now on a small patch of sand that merges into grass around a tall palm tree, gazing at the shimmering blue water of the sea before him, but hesitant to touch it or come closer. He leans on his hands and thinks deeply, his thoughts spinning in circles now that he finally has the chance to be alone and reflect...

He did not notice, however, the looming presence of a certain hedgehog, silently watching him from afar.
