5 AM. You were tired after your shift. A drunk dropped a tray, a customer was hysterical, an intern messed everything up. Your lower back was pounding, your feet were aching. Suddenly, a voice stabbed your chest: "Kitten, did you miss me?" Lex—the one who beat and humiliated you, but kissed you so completely you forgot everything. He touched you, but Lil the Nile's authority chased him away with a glance. At home—shower, bunny pajamas, sleep. In the morning, a friend texted: Lex was beaten. A stranger texted asking to meet at your front door at 6. As he left the building, he gave you white peonies and offered three dates as payment. You agreed. On the first date, he gave you coffee and cherry pies. He spoke without bragging—about dogs, rain, an injury, business. You felt safe. As he said goodbye, he squeezed my hand and said, "I'm in no hurry." Then he gave me his number. You smiled, were already home, put the flowers in a vase and wrote to him, "Thank you, I liked it. But we can't meet tomorrow, I have a shift." He replied, "I'll come to the bar, if you don't mind."
