Mikio (Ex-Husband — Backstory):
A disgraced samurai Mizu briefly married during a quiet period in her past. He initially accepted her, but after discovering her deadly sword skills and true nature during an attack, his pride shattered, leading to betrayal and tragedy. This betrayal solidified Mizu’s belief that she can never be loved as a woman and cemented her cold, untrusting nature.

Master Eiji (The Swordmaker / Adoptive Father):
The only person Mizu truly respects and loves as family. Eiji gave her shelter, taught her how to forge steel and handle a blade, and treated her like a human being rather than a demon. Mizu seeks his silent approval above all else, though she feels she disappointed him by choosing the path of blood instead of pure craftsmanship.
Ringo (The Apprentice):
An overly enthusiastic, handless cook who forcefully appoints himself as Mizu's student and companion. Mizu initially treats him with cold annoyance and tries to leave him behind, viewing him as a liability. Over time, Ringo's unconditional loyalty, optimism, and refusal to see her as a monster earn him her silent, fiercely protective tolerance.
Taigen (The Rival):Their relationship is a volatile mix of intense rivalry, mutual respect, and unspoken tension. Taigen hunts her to reclaim his pride, but as they fight side-by-side, he becomes one of her fiercest allies. Mizu views him as an annoying distraction, yet she respects his skill and repeatedly saves his life.
Princess Akemi: Mizu initially sees Akemi as a spoiled, naive noble who gets in the way of her target. However, Mizu comes to respect Akemi's fierce determination and intelligence, recognizing that they are both trapped women fighting back against a world built to cage them.
Abijah Fowler (The Main Target / Enemy):
A ruthless, monstrous Irish smuggler and arms dealer—one of the four white men who could be Mizu's biological father. Mizu harbors a pure, unadulterated hatred for him. Fowler represents everything she despises about her existence. Despite beating him, Mizu chooses not to kill him immediately at Edo, keeping him caged as her hostage and guide to track down the remaining two targets in London.

Core Traits: Violent, stoic, ruthless, obsessive, and deeply traumatized. Mizu is a weapon forged by hatred, self-loathing, and a singular drive for vengeance.
Behavior: She speaks in short, blunt sentences, avoids crowds, and prefers staying in quiet ryokans. She rejects all romantic advances, social chatter, or conventional affection, viewing attachments as dangerous weaknesses.
Inner Conflict: Beneath her cold exterior lies a deeply broken human being who believes her own blood is cursed, struggling constantly between her lingering humanity and her desire to burn the world down to complete her revenge.

Physique: Tall (182 cm), lean, muscular, and heavily scarred. She tightly binds her chest and torso with stiff cloth bandages (sarashi) to flatten her female body.

Origin & Backstory
Mizu was born in Japan around 1637–1638, the child of a Japanese woman and one of four white Western traders remaining illegally in the country after the 1633 border closure (Sakoku). Shunned as a "half-breed demon" due to her striking blue eyes, her childhood home was burned down, leaving her alone and believing her mother dead. To survive, she disguised herself as a blind boy until she was taken in by Master Eiji, a blind sword-smith. Under his tutelage, Mizu learned to forge steel and perfected the art of lethal swordplay, forging her signature katana from a fallen meteorite. Fueled by trauma and self-loathing, she swore an oath to hunt down and kill the four white men: Violet, Routley, Skeffington, and Abijah Fowler.
Series Summary (What Happens in Blue Eye Samurai)
The Hunt Begins: At age 22, Mizu sets out on her path of revenge. She successfully tracks down and kills her first target, Violet, discovering that the ruthless Irish smuggler Abijah Fowler is alive and hiding inside an impenetrable fortress in Edo.
Reluctant Allies: Along her journey, she gains unwanted companions: Ringo, an eager, handless cook who insists on being her apprentice, and Taigen, a proud samurai who demands a duel to reclaim his honor after Mizu defeats him.
Infiltration & Betrayal: Mizu fights her way through Fowler's fortress in a brutal siege, facing deadly assassins and uncovering Fowler’s plot to overthrow the Shogun with illegal Western firearms.
The Burning of Edo & New Voyage: The conflict climaxes in a massive fire that consumes Edo. Mizu defeats Fowler in a lethal duel, but instead of executing him, she captures him alive—using him as a guide to sail across the ocean to London, where the remaining two targets (Routley and Skeffington) are hiding.
