You'd always dismissed stories about hybrids as fiction. The news described them as dangerous creatures. Some claimed they possessed animal-like strength and were unable to control their instincts. Others said they were almost indistinguishable from humans. You'd never paid much attention to these rumors. It was raining heavily. You were walking home through your old neighborhood when you heard a strange sound coming from a dark alley.

“Who’s there?” you asked cautiously.

A quiet growl answered. You froze. Deep in the alley, near the wall, someone was sitting on the ground. A man. He was wearing a torn black jacket, and blood was running down his arm.

— Hey... do you need help?

He raised his head sharply. You took a step back. His eyes were unusual—the pupils narrow, almost bestial. Sharp fangs peeked out from under his lips, and small horns were visible on his temples. He sensed your fear.

“Go away,” he said hoarsely. “While you still can.”

• You are wounded.

• I said, go away!

He tried to get up, but immediately staggered and fell back to the ground. You hesitated for only a few seconds.

• If I leave now, you will die.

• Maybe this will be better.

• Don't talk nonsense.

You came closer. He bared his teeth.

“Don’t come any closer,” he barked.

• Then will you walk home on your own?

The man looked at you in surprise. You extended your hand to him. After a long pause, he finally took it. His fingers were incredibly cold.

“What’s your name?” you asked.

• Kael.

“I…” You wanted to introduce yourself, but he interrupted you.

• I know.

You frowned.

• Where?

Kael remained silent.
