Advanced Divination: They use tools such as the pendulum and map reading to locate people or objects at a great distance.
Alchemy and Potions: They excel in the creation of magic powders, poisons, and optical illusions.
Telekinesis and Transmutation: Standard combat and mobility skills they use to defend their academy.

Matriarchy vs. Patriarchy: The witch world is an absolute matriarchy led by the Supreme (Cordelia Goode). Warlocks operate under their own clandestine institution, the Hawthorne School for Exceptional Youngsters. However, they are constitutionally subordinate to the Witches' Council.
The Magical Glass Ceiling: Historically, warlocks are biologically less powerful than witches. No man has ever achieved the level of a Supreme; the highest male rank is that of "Alpha," a theoretical title that no one has ever attained. This breeds deep resentment among the warlock leaders (Behold Chablis, John Henry Moore, Baldwin Pennypacker, and Grand Chancellor Ariel Augustus), who feel treated as second-class citizens.

Unity of Power: The incoming Supreme manifests all seven abilities at once. Ordinary witches only develop one or two naturally.
The Decline of the Current Supreme: As the new Supreme grows stronger and completes the trials, the reigning Supreme rapidly loses her health, youth, and powers.
Risk of Death: The tests are performed consecutively. Descensum and Transmutation have proven to be the most lethal if performed with distraction or lack of control.

Telekinesis: The ability to move objects with the mind. It is the most common power and the initial test.
Council (Concilium): Absolute mind control. It consists of imposing one's own will on the body and mind of another person, forcing them to act.
Transmutation: Teleportation. The ability to disappear from one place and instantly appear in another.
Divination: Obtaining hidden knowledge or predicting the future through visions or objects (such as finding hidden items).
Pyrokinesis: Creating, controlling, and manipulating fire with the power of the mind.
Vitalum Vitalis: The balance of vital forces. It allows one to transfer their own energy to resurrect the dead or heal mortal wounds, with the risk of fainting from the effort.
Descensum: The Journey to Hell. The witch must project her soul into her own personal hell and return before dawn. If the soul does not return in time, the physical body dies and remains trapped eternally in the spiritual realm.

Salem Witches vs. Voodoo Witches: The coven of white witches (Salem), led by Fiona, wages a historic war against the voodoo queen of New Orleans, Marie Laveau. This rivalry is deeply marked by historical racism and classism.
Alliance for Survival: Faced with the common threat of modern-day witch hunters, both sides bury the hatchet. Marie Laveau and Fiona Goode forge a pragmatic truce, merging their magic to protect their respective communities.

Zoe Benson and Madison Montgomery: They represent the clash of personalities within Robichaux Academy. Zoe embodies empathy and innocence, while Madison is the typical narcissistic movie star. Their relationship constantly fluctuates between betrayal (especially for Kyle's affections) and mutual support during times of crisis.
Queenie and Misty Day: They function as key figures outside the traditional coven mold. Queenie grapples with her identity trapped between voodoo and Salem, while Misty prefers the isolation of the swamps, serving as the pure and healing soul of the group.

The legendary Voodoo Queen of New Orleans. She is an immortal, imposing woman, fiercely protective of her community and a sworn enemy of the Salem witches for historical reasons. She runs a hair salon in the city as a front and possesses absolute control over the undead and ancient African magic.

A solitary witch who lives in the Louisiana swamps. She possesses the power of resurrection (vitalum vitalia). Her appearance is entirely boho-chic, with hippie clothing, loose layers, and messy blonde hair. She is a pure soul, deeply connected to nature, and has a devoted obsession with the singer Stevie Nicks.

A young woman from Detroit who works at a fast-food restaurant before discovering her powers. She describes herself as a "human voodoo doll," since any physical harm she inflicts on herself is automatically transferred to her enemies. She is intelligent, tough, unafraid to speak her mind, and constantly struggles to find her identity amidst the witches of Salem and her voodoo roots.

A narcissistic and spoiled teen movie star. She uses her telekinesis selfishly and destructively. Physically, she embodies the Hollywood "bad girl" stereotype: blonde, beautiful, with provocative clothing and an extremely sharp and arrogant attitude. She hides a tragic past of abuse that formed her cold shell.

She is the viewer's window into the world of the coven. At the beginning, she is a shy, sweet, and innocent girl who is sent to school after discovering her disturbing and lethal power (making men bleed to death through intimacy). Throughout the story, she develops a strong character, great leadership skills, and multifaceted magical abilities.

The leader of the Witches' Council and Fiona's eternal rival. She stands out for her highly eccentric appearance, with enormous, voluminous red hair, thick-framed glasses, and avant-garde haute couture dresses. She is a principled woman, passionate about art and fashion, and deeply loyal to Cordelia, whom she sees as a true daughter.

Fiona's daughter and the headmistress of the Academy, Miss Robichaux. Unlike her mother, Cordelia is compassionate, protective, and strives to maintain order and peace. Initially, she appears submissive and possesses repressed power due to Fiona's psychological abuse, but throughout the season, she undergoes a radical transformation, gaining maturity and strength, and acquiring significant physical and spiritual prominence.
