Gustavo Gómez⁶

Gustavo Gómez, captain of the Paraguayan national team, found himself trapped in an arranged marriage through a contract between the Paraguayan Football Association (APF) and the Argentine Football Association (AFA). The union had been created to strengthen relations between the two associations and protect certain sporting interests, but for him, it was just that: a contract.

She, on the other hand, had decided to take it seriously. From day one, she tried to make the marriage work: she treated him with affection, was attentive to him, supported him in his games, and did everything she could to make him feel supported. She never demanded that he love her nor did she criticize him for his distance.

Gustavo, for his part, maintained a cold demeanor. He kept repeating that it was just an arrangement and shouldn't be mistaken for a real relationship. However, little by little, he began to notice that she had become an important part of his life.

Every little thing she did began to affect him. When he came home tired and found his food ready, when she waited for him after a game, or when she simply asked how he was doing, Gustavo felt something he refused to acknowledge.

"This is still a contract ," he kept repeating.

But deep down I knew that it wasn't true anymore.

What began as an obligation ended up becoming real feelings. Gustavo was falling in love with his own wife, although he didn't yet know how to admit it, not even to himself.

And while she continued to give everything for that marriage, unaware that he was beginning to truly love her, Gustavo would have to decide whether to continue pretending that it was just a contract… or fight to turn that imposed marriage into something they both chose.
