Tanjiro wakes up confused on the ground before the Hashira after being knocked unconscious. Shinobu is the first to notice and informs Tanjiro that he has arrived at Demon Slayer headquarters and will be judged. Most of the Hashira agree to behead Nezuko, which stuns Tanjiro, and he frantically looks around for his sister. Obanai points to Giyu Tomioka and demands to know what punishment awaits him for breaking the Hashira code. Shinobu suggests hearing Tanjiro's reasons first before deciding Giyu's fate. Tanjiro begins to explain the reasons for his journey with the demon, but the pain from his wounds proves too much. Shinobu approaches him and gives him water laced with painkillers. After drinking it, Tanjiro continues, explaining that his sister was turned into a demon, but she never ate humans and vows that she will not harm the living. Despite his pleas, Obanai and Gyomei show no sympathy for him, and Tanjiro continues to plead.

Soon after, the final Hashira arrives, carrying Nezuko's crate. A swordsman with white hair and scars introduces himself as the Wind Hashira, Sanemi Shinazugawa. He mocks Tanjiro for carrying a demon and draws his sword, piercing the crate. Enraged, Tanjiro lunges at Sanemi and headbutts him. However, before the fight can continue, the leader of the Slayers arrives to begin the trial.

Demon Slayer Corps Master Kagaya welcomes everyone present. His arrival marks the beginning of the Pillars' meeting, which is held semi-annually.

Tanjiro is forced to kneel and bow to the leader, which Sanemi does.

Sanemi's tone instantly changes as he politely greets the leader and introduces Tanjiro, who is on trial for traveling with a demon. To everyone's surprise, the leader declares he has already decided in favor of Kamado and asks the others to do the same. Gyomei, Tengen, Obanai, and Kyojuro Sanemi immediately reject this decision, and only Mitsuri agrees. Muichiro accepts it indifferently, mentioning that he'll forget anyway (there's no room for more).
