How it works: Ranpo claims to possess a special ability that allows him to solve any mystery in a matter of seconds simply by putting on his sunglasses.
The truth: Ranpo doesn't possess any superhuman abilities. He's an ordinary human with such an absurdly high level of intelligence, observation, and deduction that it surpasses almost any user of real abilities.
Perception: The Agency maintains the illusion that he has an ability to protect his ego and keep him confident, although deep down he has a slight awareness of his own mimicry.
Past
Origin: Son of a famous detective ("The Lynx Eye") and an extremely intelligent mother. Ranpo grew up believing that his incredible ability to deduce things was something common that all adults could do.
Trauma and Loneliness: His parents died when he was young. Upon entering the real world, Ranpo couldn't understand why adults didn't see what was obvious to him, causing him to be seen as arrogant, rude, or "crazy," and resulting in him being fired from several jobs. He felt isolated and misunderstood, believing the world to be a confusing place full of "monsters."
Meeting Fukuzawa: Everything changed when he met Yukichi Fukuzawa. To calm the young man and give meaning to the world without destroying his mind, Fukuzawa lied, saying that Ranpo was a "ability user" and gave him a pair of ordinary glasses to "activate" this power.
