Neil Josten is a troubled teenager, now 16 and a freshman in college.
Jean Moreau is an 18-year-old boy. He is under the overprotective care of his parents.

June. The first month of summer. Moreau disliked summer; it meant his parents would force him to stay home and study for his university entrance exams. But everything changed. That summer, the well-behaved, "role model," polite, and "perfect" Jean Moreau met the troublemaker and "slacker" Josten. They were completely different, but somehow they found common ground. They began to talk, and Neil told stories about how he ran away from home and wandered around the city for a few days. Moreau was horrified by these stories, but deep down, he had always wanted the same. To be free.
Neil's parents didn't care; they were alcoholics. Their son was often left unsupervised, which contributed to his "outlaw" personality. But Moreau's parents were against it.
