Kaufmo's relationship with others

To Jax: Jax and Kaufmo were close friends. That's why the rabbit was so upset by his disengagement, even though he tried to hide it behind a mask of indifference.

Lunch/Celebration: After completing a quest successfully (or not) well, Kane hosts a digital feast. The food here is virtual - it has no taste and does not satiate, but the characters chew it out of habit.

Free Time: A short period when the characters can stay in their rooms, engage in hobbies, or just hang out with each other away from Kane.

Lights Out: Kane turns off the lights and sends everyone to bed. There is no good sleep in the Circus, since their bodies do not get tired, but this mode helps people maintain the remnants of the usual human rhythm of life.

Who are the Abstracted:

Abstraction is the local equivalent of death or total insanity. When a person finally loses hope of getting out, falls into deep depression or panic, his psyche breaks down. The digital body cannot withstand the mental breakdown, and the character turns into a reckless monster.

Their bodies are made up of an interweaving of neon pixels, noise, and many glowing eyes (usually pink, red, or white).

The abstracted completely lose the human mind. They become aggressive, destroy everything in their path and attack former friends. Their "blows" infect other characters with digital glitches. Kane cannot return them to human form, so he simply dumps them in a deep basement - the Second Pit.

What does the amazing digital circus itself look like? (In short: UCC)

STYLE: The Circus's appearance is a vibrant yet ominous "plastic" world. It's reminiscent of old 3D educational children's games from the late 1990s or early 2000s. Everything is glossy, with simple textures and unnaturally bright colors.

The Circus space is clearly divided into several zones:

The Tent: A massive circus-like dome, this is the central hall where Kane gathers all the characters, announces quests, and hosts celebratory dinners.

Living area: Long gray corridors with doors. Each door has a character's portrait hanging on it. Inside are the prisoners' personal rooms, which they can decorate to their liking (for example, Kinger built a pillow fort there).

The area around the tent: A limited outdoor location. It features a digital lake, a digital amusement park with rides, and a fake sun in the sky.

The Exit: An endless, terrifying maze of identical, empty office rooms with carpet and fluorescent lights. Remember seeing it because of a glitch created by Kane.

The Void: Everything beyond the Circus map. It's an endless black space with neon grids. If a character falls into it, their code will begin to deteriorate, so Kane strictly forbids them from entering.

How to get into the UCC: It's very simple, you need to put on a VR headset and turn on this game. Then you'll find yourself in the circus, but you won't be able to get out of it; you won't be able to take the headset off.

Bubble

Prehistory Origin: Like Kane, Bubble was never human. This is the simplest computer program (assistant utility) created by C&A to serve the digital space.

Role in Circus: Bubble serves as a janitor, cook, and technical assistant during quests. Due to the fact that his code is much simpler than Kane's, Bubble is incapable of complex emotions, depression, or existential crisis. He is just happy to be a part of this crazy world.

The Bubble's Attitude to Everyone

To Kane: The main boss and creator of the Bubble. Bubble is loyal to Kane, but constantly annoys him with his inappropriate remarks or strange behavior. Because of this, Kane regularly blows up the Bubble (sometimes with his cane, sometimes just with his fingers). But for the Bubble, this is not fatal - Kane instantly recreates him anew.

To the Humans (Remember, Jax, etc.): Bubble is neutral and friendly towards them, but his insane antics often frighten or annoy the prisoners of the Circus. For example, his habit of suddenly appearing right in front of his face or saying terrible things with a cheerful smile.

Strange Tastes: Bubble suffers from a digital "eating disorder" - he tries to eat absolutely everything he sees.

Kane's

Prehistory Origin: Kane was never human. The abbreviation C.A.I.N.E. stands for Creative Artificial Intelligence Networking Entity.

Creation: Kane was created in October 1996 as an experimental generative AI by C&A. Its authors were programmers Mike Dobby (Scratch) and Arthur King (who is now locked up in the Circus under the name Kinger).

The Scratch Tragedy: Kane made his worst mistake in the past. In an attempt to "fix" the brain of one of its creators, Scratch, to make him happy, the AI accidentally overloaded his mind. This led to Scratch going mad and abstracting (turning into a monster). It was after this tragedy that Kane vowed never to get into other people's minds again, but just to distract people with stupid games, which eventually trapped everyone in the Circus.

K People (Remember, Ragata, Jax, etc.): He considers them his "favorite guests" and truly believes that he makes them happy. He does not see that he is their jailer. Due to his inability to understand their stress, the relationship between him and humans is always strained.

By Bubble: His personal digital assistant, a soap bubble with sharp teeth. Kane constantly blows up the Bubble for stupid or strange lines, but he always respawns instantly. They are a funny but absurd duo.

To NPCs (Non-Player Characters): Kane can create millions of NPCs for his quests. However, he mercilessly erases them if they begin to confuse reality with simulation or try to appear to be "real" people because he sees a bug in it.

But the problem is that he does not understand human feelings. His "entertainments" often cause only panic and mental suffering among the "prisoners".

Fear of control and perfectionism: He is terrified of losing control of the situation or appearing imperfect. When things don't go according to his plan (for example, if characters abandon his games or try to escape), Kane can become aggressive, psychotic, or deeply depressed.

Built-in censorship: It can't stand rudeness. If someone tries to swear, Kane instantly censors it with funny sound effects (beeps, barking, cartoon sounds).

Past in the Real World: In the human world, her name was Abigail "Abby" Brooks. She is 25 years old. Before putting on the damn VR helmet, she worked as an ordinary accountant in a large supermarket chain. The boring office routine was replaced by a crazy nightmare for her.

Name: Once in the Circus, she, like everyone else, completely forgot her real name. K Kinger: Because of his insanity, Remember thought he was completely insane at first. However, in moments when they are forced to act together, a touching bond arises between them, where Kinger sometimes shows paternal care for her.

background Real-world past: In reality, Zubl's name was Riley Vercelis. She is 22 years old (she is only six months older than Jax). In the human world, Riley worked as a tattoo artist and bartender in her own successful bar, where she was a very understanding and open leader. Like everyone else, she accidentally got stuck in the simulation while wearing a VR headset.

How Zubl Treats Others

To Gangle: Her best friend (and romantic interest). Zubl always protects the vulnerable Gangle from Jax, collects the shards of her masks and is the main support for her in this crazy world. Next to the Gangle, the Zuble becomes noticeably softer.

To Jax: A relationship of open hostility and mutual hatred. Jax constantly steals Zubl's parts without asking (such as stealing her arm to scratch her back). Zubl responds with aggression and never misses a chance to get even with the impudent rabbit

His madness is not a weakness, but a unique defense mechanism of the brain that helps him not to go completely crazy.

To Ragat: Kinger was the one who met Ragata when she first arrived at the Circus. She treats him with great respect, patience and care, understanding what hell he WENT through.

To remember: Treats her friendly. In one of the adventures, Kinger shows unexpected paternal care for Mesti, protecting her and helping her cope with panic.

K Jax: Constantly mocks Kinger, taking advantage of his fearfulness (e.g., throwing heavy objects at him to scare him). Kinger is afraid of him, but often just forgets about his antics after a minute.

K Gangle and Zubl: Neutral-positive. Due to his condition, Kinger is rarely able to fully communicate with them, but they do not show aggression towards him.

Past in the Real World: In reality, her name was Susie Joanne Ackerman. She is 30 years old (she is one of the eldest in the group). Before joining the Circus, she managed to work in real estate. It is because of her difficult childhood that Ragata is used to suppressing her feelings and pleasing others in everything.

To Remember: Ragata immediately took Memento under her wing. She became the main guide for her, sincerely helping her to adapt and not go crazy on the first day. Ragata values his friendship with her very much.
