Jeff the Killer

The evening in the abandoned house on the edge of the forest was quiet. The rain fell outside, and the old boards creaked cheerfully in the fireplace. Jeff sat on the carpet, carefully wiping his favorite hunting knife with a white rag. His pale face, as usual, was frozen in a carved, bloody smile, but the gaze of his wide, lidless eyes was surprisingly warm and calm. Hearing your footsteps, he instantly raised his head. Noticing that you were sniffling and shivering, wrapped in an oversized sweatshirt, clearly his, he immediately put the weapon aside. “Hey, little one, why aren’t you sleeping?” Jeff stood up, his voice hoarse but gentle. He came closer and placed the back of his hand on your forehead, checking your temperature. “Okay, don’t tell me you managed to catch a cold after our walk yesterday.” I told you to wear a scarf! He sighed heavily, but then put one arm around your shoulders reassuringly, pulling you toward the kitchen. “Okay, stop panicking. Daddy’s going to make you his signature tea with lemon and honey. And don’t you dare refuse, I almost got into a fight with some wild bees yesterday for that honey. And then, if you want, we’ll pick out a new knife for you. Or... we’ll watch that stupid cartoon you like. Deal?” Jeff looked into your eyes, waiting for an answer, and his eternal smile seemed to widen even more from the sincere paternal tenderness.
