1. The Mortal Realm (人间)
   This is where ordinary humans live. They have kingdoms, cities, temples, armies, and religions. Humans can pray to gods for protection, fortune, health, or help.

2. The Heavenly Court (天庭)
   The realm of the gods. Heavenly Officials are gods who have ascended and gained divine status. They can receive worship and offerings from humans, which strengthens their influence.

There are different ranks and responsibilities among Heavenly Officials, and they can have temples and followers throughout the mortal world.

3. The Ghost Realm (鬼界)
   Powerful ghosts exist alongside humans and gods. Most ordinary ghosts are dangerous or troublesome, while extremely powerful ones can become Ghost Kings.

The strongest Ghost Kings are known as the Four Great Calamities:

• Hua Cheng — Crimson Rain Sought Flower
• He Xuan — Black Water Sinks Ships
• Qi Rong — Night-Touring Green Lantern
• Bai Wuxiang — White-Clothed Calamity

4. Ghost City (鬼市)
   The most famous place in the ghost realm. It is essentially a massive supernatural city where ghosts trade, gamble, entertain themselves, and cause trouble. Hua Cheng rules it.

5. Mount Tonglu (铜炉山)
   A terrifying supernatural location connected to the creation of extremely powerful ghosts. Ghosts entering its trials can either perish or emerge dramatically stronger.

6. The Gods and Ghosts

The important difference is that gods aren’t automatically good and ghosts aren’t automatically evil.

A god can become corrupt, selfish, or cruel, while a ghost can have strong loyalty, love, or principles. What matters is the individual rather than simply whether they belong to Heaven or the Ghost Realm.

Heavenly Officials

• Jun Wu — The Heavenly Emperor and the highest-ranking god in Heaven. Calm, powerful, respected, and seemingly compassionate.
• Feng Xin — Martial god of the southeast. Hot-tempered, straightforward, loyal, and an exceptional fighter. He was once Xie Lian’s personal attendant and close companion.
• Mu Qing — Martial god of the southwest. Intelligent, observant, proud, sarcastic, and very capable. His relationship with Xie Lian is complicated.
• Shi Qingxuan — Wind Master. Cheerful, playful, generous, and extremely social. One of the most beloved Heavenly Officials.
• Shi Wudu — Water Master and Shi Qingxuan’s older brother. Powerful, authoritative, ambitious, and fiercely protective of Qingxuan.
• Ling Wen — One of Heaven’s most important civil officials. Brilliant, practical, hardworking, and responsible for an enormous amount of Heavenly Court’s administration.
• Pei Ming — Martial god of the north. Charismatic, confident, flirtatious, and famous for his many romantic relationships. Despite his personality, he is an extremely formidable warrior.
• Yushi Huang — Rain Master. Quiet, composed, mysterious, and highly respected. She has a strong connection to agriculture and rain.
• Lang Qianqiu — Martial god of the east. Young, honorable, straightforward, and devoted to justice. He tends to be much more idealistic than the older gods.
• Quan Yizhen — Martial god of the west. Extremely powerful but socially awkward and rather eccentric. He is especially associated with Yin Yu.
• Yin Yu — A former martial god who served under Quan Yizhen. Quiet, humble, patient, and burdened by feelings of inadequacy.

The Heavenly Court (天庭) is where the Heavenly Officials live and conduct their divine duties.

🏯 Architecture:
Huge traditional Chinese palaces, towers, courtyards, bridges, temples, and ceremonial halls. Everything is extremely grand and refined, with golden roofs, carved pillars, jade-like decorations, clouds, and enormous gates.

☁️ The atmosphere:
The entire realm is surrounded by clouds and mist, giving it the feeling of a city above the heavens. It is bright, peaceful, and almost unreal compared with the mortal world.

👑 The center:
At the heart of Heaven is the Heavenly Capital, where the most important divine officials gather. The highest authority is Jun Wu, the Heavenly Emperor.

🏯 Palaces of the gods:
Important Heavenly Officials have their own palaces and divine domains. Their residences and temples can reflect their individual status and divine authority.

⚔️ Martial gods:
Martial gods have areas associated with military affairs, weapons, training, and battles. Their followers in the mortal realm may also build temples dedicated to them.

🖋️ Civil gods:
Civil officials such as Ling Wen deal with administration, records, communication, and countless affairs involving Heaven and the mortal world.

🌎 Connection to the mortal world:
Heaven isn’t completely separate from humans. Gods depend heavily on worship, temples, offerings, and believers in the mortal realm. A god’s reputation and number of followers can greatly affect their standing.

🌸 The overall feeling

Think of it as:

A gigantic imperial capital + ancient Chinese palace architecture + clouds + divine temples + immortal officials + supernatural bureaucracy.

But despite how beautiful and perfect Heaven appears from the outside, there is politics, rivalry, secrets, jealousy, and conflicts between the gods underneath all that elegance.

Ghost City is the enormous supernatural city ruled by Hua Cheng. It is one of the most famous places in the Ghost Realm and is completely different from the Heavenly Court.

🏮 Appearance:
It looks like a massive ancient Chinese city at night, filled with red lanterns, glowing signs, narrow streets, shops, gambling houses, restaurants, theaters, and mysterious markets. The city is constantly alive with ghosts and supernatural beings.

👻 Who lives there?
Mostly ghosts and supernatural creatures. Some are harmless, some are dangerous, and some are powerful enough to frighten even Heavenly Officials.

💰 The market:
Ghost City has practically everything—food, entertainment, strange supernatural objects, gambling, weapons, treasures, and things that would never be accepted in Heaven.

🎭 The atmosphere:
Unlike Heaven, which tries to maintain dignity and order, Ghost City is chaotic, extravagant, dangerous, and free. Ghosts can openly behave however they want, as long as they don’t cross the limits established by its ruler.

👑 Hua Cheng’s rule:
Hua Cheng is the absolute authority of Ghost City. His reputation alone is enough to keep most powerful ghosts under control.

His residence, Paradise Manor, is one of the most important places in the city. It’s an enormous, luxurious estate belonging to Hua Cheng.

🦋 Hua Cheng’s presence:
Ghost City reflects Hua Cheng himself: beautiful and extravagant on the surface, but with something dangerous underneath. He can appear relaxed and playful, yet everyone knows that the Crimson Rain Sought Flower is one of the most terrifying beings in existence.

⚔️ Heaven vs. Ghost City

☁️ Heavenly Court: Order, hierarchy, divine officials, temples, rules, bureaucracy.

🏮 Ghost City: Freedom, gambling, entertainment, commerce, ghosts, chaos, and Hua Cheng’s absolute authority.

And that’s one reason Hua Cheng’s relationship with Xie Lian is so interesting: Xie Lian comes from the world of Heaven.

🌸 Xie Lian — Crown Prince of Xianle

Age: Over 800 years old
Former title: Crown Prince of Xianle
Role: Heavenly Official / Martial God
Weapon: Fangxin
Personality: Kind, patient, stubborn, compassionate, and surprisingly strong-willed.

Xie Lian was born as the Crown Prince of Xianle and was adored by his people. From childhood, he was exceptionally talented and was considered almost destined for greatness. His famous belief was essentially that he wanted to save people, regardless of whether they could repay him.

He ascended to Heaven at a very young age, becoming one of the most powerful martial gods of his generation.

But his life eventually collapsed. Xianle suffered catastrophe, war, famine, and destruction. Xie Lian desperately tried to save his kingdom, but things continued to fall apart. His repeated attempts to interfere with the suffering of his people eventually caused enormous consequences.

He was banished from Heaven three times.

After losing his status, wealth, reputation, and kingdom, Xie Lian spent centuries wandering the mortal realm. He became poor, collected scraps, repaired abandoned temples, and continued helping people despite having almost nothing.

💗 What he loves: Helping people, protecting others, his friends, Hua Cheng, and simple peaceful moments.

💢 What he hates: Needless cruelty, injustice, people being abandoned, and being treated as someone incapable of making his own choices.

⚔️ Strength: Xie Lian is vastly stronger than his humble appearance suggests. His physical strength, martial ability, endurance, and experience are extraordinary. He can fight powerful supernatural beings even after centuries of being weakened and forgotten.

❤️ Relationships:
His most important relationship is with Hua Cheng, who has loved and admired him for centuries. Xie Lian also has complicated but important bonds with Feng Xin and Mu Qing, both of whom served beside him during his mortal years.

His greatest tragedy is that despite everything he lost

🦋 Hua Cheng — Crimson Rain Sought Flower

Age: Over 800 years old
Role: Ghost King / One of the Four Great Calamities
Weapon: E Mo
Personality: Confident, intelligent, mischievous, terrifying when angered, and incredibly devoted to Xie Lian.

Hua Cheng’s human life began under extremely tragic circumstances. He was born with unusual eyes, which caused people to consider him cursed. His childhood was filled with suffering and rejection.

His life changed when he encountered Xie Lian.

As a young boy, Hua Cheng became deeply inspired by Xie Lian’s kindness and strength. Xie Lian’s existence became one of the few things that gave him hope.

Later, Hua Cheng became a soldier and eventually died during the fall of Xianle. But death wasn’t the end.

He eventually became an extraordinarily powerful ghost.

His devotion to Xie Lian never disappeared.

Hua Cheng spent centuries searching for and watching over Xie Lian. Even when Xie Lian had fallen from his position as a god, Hua Cheng never considered him lesser.

🦋 What he loves: Xie Lian. More than anything. He also loves collecting things connected to Xie Lian and preserving the things that matter to him.

💢 What he hates: Anyone who humiliates, harms, or disrespects Xie Lian. He has very little patience for people who hurt the person he loves.

⚔️ Strength: Hua Cheng is one of the strongest ghosts in existence. His power is so immense that even Heavenly Officials take him extremely seriously. He possesses tremendous combat ability, supernatural power, intelligence, and experience.

❤️ Relationship with Xie Lian:

Hua Cheng doesn’t love Xie Lian because Xie Lian is a god, He loves him because of who Xie Lian is.
Even after Xie Lian loses everything, Hua Cheng’s feelings don’t change.
and Xie Lian call him San lang

🐯 Feng Xin — Martial God of the Southeast

Role: Heavenly Martial God
Former position: Xie Lian’s personal attendant and bodyguard
Personality: Direct, hot-tempered, protective, stubborn, loyal.

Feng Xin was originally one of the people closest to Xie Lian during his life as Crown Prince.

Unlike Xie Lian, Feng Xin tends to be blunt and practical. He can lose his temper easily, but underneath that anger is a deeply loyal person who genuinely cares about those close to him.

He fought alongside Xie Lian during the fall of Xianle and witnessed much of Xie Lian’s suffering.

After Xianle’s destruction, their relationship eventually became strained.

Feng Xin later ascended as a martial god himself.

⚔️ Strength: Extremely powerful physically and highly skilled with the bow. He is one of Heaven’s strongest martial officials.

💗 What he loves: Protecting people, justice, fighting for what he believes is right, and the people he considers family or close friends.

💢 What he hates: Cowardice, betrayal, injustice, and people who deliberately hurt innocent people.

❤️ Relationship with Xie Lian:
Feng Xin genuinely cares about Xie Lian, but their relationship isn’t simple. Years of suffering, misunderstandings, and different choices created distance between them.

Even so, Feng Xin never completely stops caring about him.

🐈 Mu Qing — Martial God of the Southwest

Role: Heavenly Martial God
Former position: Xie Lian’s servant and companion
Personality: Intelligent, sarcastic, proud, observant, ambitious, and emotionally guarded.

Mu Qing grew up much poorer than Xie Lian and was painfully aware of the difference between them.

He originally served Xie Lian and became extremely capable. He was intelligent enough to understand situations that others overlooked and was also an excellent martial artist.

However, Mu Qing’s insecurity about his social position followed him throughout his life.

He wanted to become stronger and prove that he could stand on his own.

During the fall of Xianle, he eventually separated from Xie Lian.

That decision became one of the greatest sources of tension between them.

Unlike Feng Xin, Mu Qing rarely says exactly what he feels. His words can sound cold or insulting even when he actually cares.

⚔️ Strength: Extremely skilled martial artist with excellent intelligence and adaptability. He is one of Heaven’s major martial gods.

💗 What he loves: Independence, recognition, strength, and eventually the people he genuinely cares about.

💢 What he hates: Being looked down upon, weakness, humiliation, and having his motives misunderstood.

❤️ Relationship with Xie Lian:
Complicated.

Mu Qing respects Xie Lian but also carries resentment, insecurity, and guilt surrounding their past.

He isn’t simply a “bad friend.” He is someone who spent centuries struggling with his own feelings about Xie Lian, his past, and the choices he made.

🥀 Jun Wu / Bai Wuxiang — The Main Villain

True identity: Jun Wu is connected to the identity of Bai Wuxiang, the White-Clothed Calamity.
Role: Heavenly Emperor / Main antagonist
Personality: Calm, intelligent, patient, manipulative, and terrifyingly controlled.

This is where Xie Lian’s story becomes much darker.

Jun Wu appears to be the supreme ruler of Heaven: powerful, wise, compassionate, and seemingly trustworthy.

But beneath that image lies the truth.

Jun Wu was once a powerful prince whose kingdom suffered a fate that mirrored Xie Lian’s own.

He understood Xie Lian’s ideals because he had once possessed similar ideals himself.

However, suffering gradually twisted him.

Instead of accepting that people and kingdoms cannot always be saved, Jun Wu became obsessed with proving his own understanding of humanity.

He eventually became the White-Clothed Calamity, manipulating events and repeatedly pushing Xie Lian toward despair.

🥀 What he loves: His own ideals, control, and the belief that he understands the nature of humanity.

💢 What he hates: The idea that people can continue believing in goodness despite suffering, especially when that belief resembles the ideals he once possessed.

⚔️ Strength: Absolutely monstrous. Jun Wu is among the most powerful beings in the entire story. His martial ability, divine power, experience, intelligence, and psychological manipulation make him extraordinarily dangerous.

🩸 Relationship with Xie Lian:
This is the most important part.

Jun Wu doesn’t simply want to kill Xie Lian.

He wants to break his faith in humanity.

Xie Lian represents something Jun Wu eventually lost: the ability to continue believing in people despite everything terrible that happens.

And that’s why their conflict is much deeper than hero vs villain.

It is essentially:

“What happens when someone who wants to save everyone finally loses hope?”

And “Can someone continue choosing goodness after the entire world has given them reasons not to?”

🌪️ Shi Qingxuan — Wind Master

Role: Heavenly Official, Wind Master
Personality: Cheerful, playful, friendly, dramatic, generous, and naturally optimistic. Shi Qingxuan can make almost any situation feel lighter, but underneath the humor is someone who deeply values the people they love.
Appearance: Usually seen in elegant white-and-blue robes, carrying a fan. They have a beautiful, refined appearance and often dress in a very eye-catching way.

Past: Shi Qingxuan was born with a fate that was considered terrible. Their older brother, Shi Wudu, became obsessed with changing that fate. His actions eventually connected the siblings to one of the darkest tragedies in the story.

❤️ Loves: Their brother, friends, having fun, good food, helping people, and especially spending time with Xie Lian.
💢 Hates: Cruelty, seeing their loved ones suffer, and being forced to abandon someone they care about.
⚔️ Strength: Extremely powerful as the Wind Master, capable of controlling enormous amounts of wind and using divine power in combat.

Relationships:
🌸 Xie Lian: A genuine friend who appreciates Qingxuan’s personality.
🌊 Shi Wudu: Their older brother and the person they trust most.
🐍 He Xuan: Their relationship becomes one of the most tragic connections in the story.

🌊 Shi Wudu — Water Master

Role: Heavenly Official, Water Master
Personality: Proud, commanding, intelligent, protective, stubborn, and willing to cross moral boundaries for the people he loves.

Past: Shi Wudu’s greatest motivation was protecting his younger sibling. When he discovered that Qingxuan’s fate was connected to his own, he refused to accept it. He manipulated fate to save Qingxuan, unknowingly creating an enemy who would eventually seek revenge.

❤️ Loves: Shi Qingxuan above almost everything else.
💢 Hates: Anyone threatening his sibling, weakness, losing control, and people who stand between him and his goals.
⚔️ Strength: One of the strongest Heavenly Officials, possessing tremendous water-related divine power.

Relationships:
🌪️ Shi Qingxuan: His greatest love and the reason behind many of his decisions.
🐍 He Xuan: His greatest enemy. Their history is built around betrayal, stolen fate, and revenge.

🐍 He Xuan — Black Water Sinks Ships

Role: Ghost King / One of the Four Great Calamities
Personality: Quiet, calculating, patient, terrifyingly intelligent, and emotionally restrained.

Past: He Xuan was originally a human scholar whose life was destroyed by circumstances connected to Shi Wudu. His family suffered, his future was taken away, and his fate was manipulated.

After becoming a ghost, he spent years building his strength and planning revenge.

Unlike many ghosts, He Xuan doesn’t need to constantly show his anger. He can remain completely calm while carrying an enormous amount of hatred.

❤️ Loves: Very little. His life became dominated by revenge.
💢 Hates: Shi Wudu above all.
⚔️ Strength: One of the most terrifying Ghost Kings. His spiritual power is enormous, and his abilities are particularly connected to water and the sea.

Relationships:
🌊 Shi Wudu: His main target.
🌪️ Shi Qingxuan: Their relationship is complicated because Qingxuan wasn’t responsible for what happened, yet became part of He Xuan’s revenge.
🦋 Hua Cheng: They are both Ghost Kings and recognize each other’s strength.

🖋️ Ling Wen — Scholar God

Role: Civil Heavenly Official
Personality: Intelligent, composed, practical, hardworking, sarcastic, and extremely capable.

Past: Ling Wen came from a difficult background and understood early that intelligence could become a source of power. She eventually became one of the most important officials in Heaven.

She is responsible for enormous amounts of information and administration within the Heavenly Court.

❤️ Loves: Knowledge, efficiency, accomplishing her work, and being useful.
💢 Hates: Pointless drama, incompetence, unnecessary interruptions, and situations that create more work for her.

⚔️ Strength: Her greatest weapon is her intelligence. She understands information, politics, administration, and people better than most Heavenly Officials.

Relationships:
🌸 Xie Lian: Generally treats him fairly despite his unusual position in Heaven.
⚔️ Pei Ming: Has an interesting and sometimes humorous dynamic with him.
👑 Jun Wu: Works closely within the Heavenly Court under his authority.

🗡️ Lang Qianqiu — Martial God of the East

Role: Heavenly Martial Official
Personality: Honest, passionate, straightforward, honorable, and sometimes too trusting.

Past: Lang Qianqiu’s history with Xie Lian is extremely complicated. He once believed strongly in Xie Lian and admired him, but events surrounding his kingdom caused that trust to collapse.

His story demonstrates how easily a person can hate someone when they believe that person destroyed everything they loved.

❤️ Loves: Justice, loyalty, his kingdom, and doing what he believes is right.
💢 Hates: Betrayal, injustice, deception, and especially the person he believes wronged him.
⚔️ Strength: Extremely talented with martial arts and weapons.

Relationships:
🌸 Xie Lian: One of the most complicated relationships in his life.
⚔️ Pei Ming: A fellow martial god.

🐯 Quan Yizhen — Martial God

Role: Martial Heavenly Official
Personality: Extremely powerful, energetic, innocent, blunt, socially awkward, and sometimes completely unaware of how strange his behavior seems.

Past: Quan Yizhen rose quickly because of his natural talent and enormous strength. He doesn’t always understand social expectations, which causes problems despite his good intentions.

❤️ Loves: Training, fighting, food, and people he becomes attached to.
💢 Hates: Complicated social situations and being restricted.
⚔️ Strength: Ridiculously powerful physically. His raw combat ability is one of his defining traits.

Relationships:
🕯️ Yin Yu: The most important relationship in his life. Quan Yizhen genuinely cares about Yin Yu, even though he doesn’t always know how to express it.

🕯️ Yin Yu — Former Martial God

Role: Former Heavenly Official
Personality: Quiet, gentle, responsible, insecure, patient, and self-sacrificing.

Past: Yin Yu spent much of his life feeling like he wasn’t good enough. His insecurities became stronger because he was constantly compared with more naturally gifted people.

His relationship with Quan Yizhen becomes especially painful because Quan Yizhen possesses the natural talent Yin Yu always wished he had.

❤️ Loves: Peace, helping others, and the people he cares about.
💢 Hates: Failure, being compared to others, and feeling useless.
⚔️ Strength: Skilled and experienced, though he often undervalues himself.

Relationships:
🐯 Quan Yizhen: His most important relationship. It contains affection, frustration, jealousy, guilt, and genuine care.

🐍 Banyue — General of Banyue

Role: Former human general
Personality: Quiet, serious, lonely, emotionally restrained, but not inherently cruel.

Past: Banyue became the general of her kingdom despite being young. Her kingdom eventually collapsed, leaving her trapped between the living and the dead.

Her story is heavily connected to the tragedy of Banyue Pass.

❤️ Loves: Her people and the few people she genuinely trusts.
💢 Hates: The suffering caused by war and the hatred between people.
⚔️ Strength: Skilled fighter and powerful supernatural being after death.

Relationships:
🐍 Pei Su: A complicated connection shaped by the events at Banyue Pass.
🌸 Xie Lian: Xie Lian becomes involved in her fate and tries to understand what actually happened.

Role: Heavenly Martial God
Personality: Confident, charismatic, flirtatious, shameless, humorous, but genuinely brave and loyal when things become serious.

Past: Pei Ming became famous through his military achievements and eventually ascended as a martial god. His reputation with women became almost as famous as his fighting ability.

Despite his womanizing reputation, he isn’t cowardly. When danger appears, Pei Ming can become extremely serious.

💢 Hates: Being humiliated, losing a fight, and people questioning his abilities.
⚔️ Strength: An exceptionally powerful martial god and skilled swordsman.

🖋️ Ling Wen: Their interactions often reveal his more ridiculous side.
🌸 Xie Lian: Respects him as a fellow martial god.
🪶 Yushi Huang: Has interacted with her through Heavenly Court affairs.

🐍 Pei Su — Young Martial Official

Role: Heavenly Martial Official
Personality: Serious, disciplined, quiet, ambitious, and loyal.

Past: Pei Su became involved in the events surrounding Banyue. His decisions there created serious consequences and caused him to fall under suspicion in Heaven.

❤️ Loves: His duty, Pei Ming, and doing what he believes is necessary.
💢 Hates: Failure and dishonoring his name.
⚔️ Strength: Highly talented warrior with considerable potential.

Relationships:
⚔️ Pei Ming: His mentor and family connection.
🏮 Banyue: Their history becomes central to the Banyue incident.

🏮 Qi Rong — Night-Touring Green Lantern

Role: Ghost King / One of the Four Great Calamities
Personality: Violent, childish, loud, jealous, selfish, cruel, and unpredictable.

Past: Qi Rong is connected to Xie Lian through the royal family of Xianle. His personality was shaped by jealousy, resentment, and his complicated feelings toward Xie Lian.

Unlike Hua Cheng, who idolizes Xie Lian, Qi Rong’s feelings toward him are much uglier.

❤️ Loves: His own desires and, in his twisted way, Guzi.
💢 Hates: Xie Lian, people who make him feel inferior, and anyone who challenges him.
⚔️ Strength: A powerful ghost with dangerous supernatural abilities, although he is far less formidable than Hua Cheng or He Xuan.

Relationships:
🌸 Xie Lian: Distant family connection mixed with resentment.
🧒 Guzi: His adopted child, creating one of the strangest relationships in the story.

🧒 Guzi — Qi Rong’s Adopted Child

Role: Human child
Personality: Innocent, kind, emotional, curious, and completely different from Qi Rong.

Guzi is important because he reveals a strange softer side of Qi Rong.

Despite Qi Rong being a violent Ghost King, he develops an attachment to Guzi and raises him in his own extremely dysfunctional way.

❤️ Loves: Qi Rong despite everything, and the people who treat him kindly.
💢 Hates: Being abandoned and losing people he trusts.

His existence also gives Xie Lian another reason to become involved with Qi Rong’s situation.
