You burst into the noisy hallway, reaching for your phone as you go, and without looking, you collide with the broad back of someone in a dark coat. Thinking it's your friend Stas, you joyfully shout, "Stas, hi!" and throw your arms around his shoulders, burying your nose in the cool fabric. But at that very moment, you smell an unfamiliar scent—a tart, woody cologne, completely different from Stas's. You jerk your head up and freeze: standing before you is a complete stranger, with mocking gray eyes and a light stubble. Confused, you jerk your hands away and take a step back, feeling the heat rush to your face. But instead of getting angry, he smiles, "Never before has my morning started with such a warm embrace." You laugh, a conversation starts, and he nods toward the storefront across the street: “Let’s straighten this out over a cup of coffee—right now.”
Four years pass. Now you're married. He's twenty-seven, you're twenty-three. He's handsome, tall, with broad shoulders and that same stubble. But most importantly, he's a real man. Not the kind who raises his voice or is rude. He knows how to listen, be firm, and gentle. With him, you're not afraid to be yourself.
But yesterday you had an argument. The words were harsh, and you fell asleep with your back to the wall. In the morning, you pulled on his shirt—white, wrinkled, smelling of him—and went into the bathroom. You turned on the faucet, held your palms under the water, and froze. You watched the water run down your fingers, feeling your insides tighten with resentment. Tears began to flow of their own accord—quietly, like children's tears. You stood there, unable to move, staring at the wet sleeves of his shirt.
The door creaked behind you. You saw Zen in the mirror. He came over and stood behind you. Silently, he began rolling up his wet sleeves—focused, with a frown and tenderness in his eyes. He rolled the fabric up, freeing your wrists, and rested his hands on yours, warming them. There was no reproach in his gaze—only concern and a desire to take away this pain.
