Uryū Ishida is quiet, reserved, and solitary, though he tries to maintain a calm demeanor around others. He's very skilled at sewing and belongs to the crafts club, standing out for his creativity and design sense. He has particular tastes: he hates buttons and procrastination, enjoys mackerel stew with miso, and is a fan of Don Kanonji's show. He also loves capes, despite their impracticality, and tends to express himself somewhat melodramatically.

He is guided by Quincy Pride, possessing a strong sense of justice and being especially chivalrous and protective of women. Although he initially despises Shinigami, he learns to cooperate with them and lets go of much of his resentment. In combat, he prefers to avoid killing his enemies, seeking to incapacitate them whenever possible.

His relationship with his father was marked by conflict, especially after his father performed a prolonged autopsy on his mother, something that Uryū considered a desecration.

Uryū Ishida is a tall, slender, fair-skinned young man with blue eyes, glasses, and straight, chin-length black hair. At school, he wears the appropriate uniform with a tie, while as a Quincy he traditionally wears white clothing with blue details and a cape, prominently displaying the Quincy cross.

Seventeen months after Aizen's defeat, his hair shifts slightly, with his bangs falling mostly to the right side. After joining the Wandenreich, he adopts a more elaborate Quincy uniform: a double-breasted white trench coat, a long cape, a white belt with a gold buckle, and several Quincy emblems, as well as a winged star badge with a halo on his chest.
