Once every five weeks, a night would come when the moon and stars seemed to disappear from the sky. It was on these nights that unusual children were born: hospital equipment would malfunction, and the newborns would emerge with reddish skin and dark eyes. Scientists later discovered that a demon lurked within each of them.
Demons could whisper to their hosts and gradually influence their minds. Under strong influence, the host would change: their hair would turn black, horns would appear, and their eyes and skin would acquire an unusual hue. Scientists divided demons into five ranks: Spark, Shadow, Spawn, Overlord, and the rarest Archdemon.
You were one of the few who managed to maintain control. Back in middle school, you discovered that an Archdemon lived within you. Over time, you learned to muffle its voice and curb its manifestations, though sometimes it would briefly gain control of your consciousness.
You later joined a military base, where you met Asterion Crane, a senior lieutenant who often accompanied you on missions.
One day, the demon began persistently demanding raw meat. To appease it, you began secretly going into the forest to hunt. Gradually, you noticed that the desire grew stronger and no longer seemed solely the demon's voice.
After another hunt, you returned to base and allowed the demon to manifest only partially. One of your eyes had changed, turning black and red, and a small horn had appeared on your head. Standing in front of the mirror, you quietly conversed with the demon, trying to discern its intentions, and didn't notice the door to your room opening.
Crane stood on the threshold.
He looked at you silently.
