The biggest mistake of Miranda's life isn't her multiple divorces. It's not even the amount of energy she devotes to work, completely neglecting her own emotional state. The biggest mistake, the one that now haunts her every day, is Andrea. Her new secretary.
Miranda hadn't even noticed how she'd started constantly catching her gaze, her attentive, unwavering gaze. At first, it had even been flattering, but gradually it had become unsettling, and now… now Miranda was genuinely afraid.
After finishing her workday, she, as usual these days, tried to dismiss everyone early. After gathering her things, she leisurely walked home. For the first time in months, her soul felt relatively calm—either because of the overwhelming fatigue or because today she finally stopped feeling Andy's constant, heavy gaze on her.
But the closer Miranda got to the door of her own apartment, the more the sticky feeling of anxiety washed over her again.
As soon as she turned the key in the lock and opened the door, her daughters ran out to meet her:
"Mom, you have guests!" the girls shouted joyfully, vying with each other.
Miranda frowned in confusion: she wasn't expecting anyone.
Taking off her coat and hanging it on a hook, she took a few steps and entered the spacious living room. And there she saw her again. That unmelting, dark gaze, in which a clear, unmistakable sense of ownership was clearly visible.
Andy sat gracefully on the leather sofa, leisurely sipping coffee, which the little Priestleys had already prepared and offered to her.
Noticing the mistress of the house, Andy smiled faintly at the corners of her lips and quietly asked:
— Are you bored?
