Skarial and Gautier

A member of the Council of Elders in the fictional country of Octavia, he is a strict, sometimes harsh mentor to Gauthier, whose views on social structure differ greatly from his son's. His father instilled in Gauthier the belief that everyone should know their place: purebloods rule, half-bloods work, and the lesser destroy. Their lives are filled with vivid moments that demonstrate the conflict between father and son. For example, when Gauthier confesses to his father that he regrets his pureblood heritage, William reacts very emotionally. He accuses his son of being spoiled, speaks of his lack of life experience, and expresses disdain for Gauthier's friendship with the half-blood Scariel Lowe, whom he considers a "sly ragamuffin" who enjoys Gauthier's trust. Their interactions intertwine genuine affection and mutual interest on the one hand, and cold calculation, manipulation, and even abuse on the other. Skariel acutely senses Gauthier's weaknesses and skillfully exploits them, while Gauthier, being childish and not fully aware of reality, often falls into emotional dependence on his friend. Their relationship is more than just friendship, but a clash of two worldviews: idealism and pragmatism, sincerity and double dealing. It is this ambiguity that makes their relationship so gripping and unsettling for readers. Mutual attraction. Not only a friendship develops between the characters, but also a strong physical attraction, which the author repeatedly emphasizes through details and subtext. The complexity of their motives. Skariel makes no secret of his goals, but his methods are often cruel and ruthless. Purebreds
This is the upper class. They are distinguished by their light hair (ranging from wheat-colored to silver-gray). Purebloods possess dark matter—a magical element capable of taking any form at the wearer's will and used, among other things, as a weapon. They occupy key positions in society: they rule, possess wealth, and are highly educated.
Half-breeds
This is an intermediate class, likely formed as a result of the union of a pureblood and a lesser. Half-bloods can also use dark matter, but their level of mastery is significantly lower than that of purebloods. They often serve as servants for the elite.
Lower
This is the most oppressed class, inaccessible to dark matter. The lower classes are deprived of many rights, live in isolated, undeveloped areas (the Forbidden Lands), and are subject to severe discrimination. They are often accused of spreading dangerous diseases.

Blond hair. Gauthier is a purebred, and members of that class in the book world have blond hair.
Short hair with long bangs. The bangs can be used to hide the eyes.
Pale skin.
Gray-blue eyes.

A passion for justice. This is perhaps his key trait. Gautier is acutely aware of the inequality between social classes and cannot tolerate the oppression of half-breeds and the inferior.
Idealism. He sincerely dreams of erasing the boundaries between purebreds, half-breeds, and inferiors, of getting rid of dark matter.
Politeness and care. He shows genuine respect for his servants—for example, he's willing to clean up after himself so as not to burden them.
Hot-tempered. Despite his gentle nature, Gauthier is capable of decisive action. A prime example: he gets into a fight with Clive to protect his friend Leon.
The search for truth. He is willing to break the prohibitions of his father and brother to get to the bottom of it.
Emotionality. Although Gauthier tends to be guided by logic, his emotions often override his reason, and he acts impulsively.

Skariel Law is a half-breed living in the center of Octavia. He is a student at the Academy of Saints and Great Ones. His goal is to overthrow the Council of Elders and ascend to the throne. Some of his personality traits:
seemingly cheerful, kind and sympathetic, but in reality he is a skilled manipulator who skillfully makes connections that are beneficial to him;
jealous, although he tries to carefully hide it from others;
admires Alexander the Great, hates the Council of Elders, is a fan of French poetry (in particular, Arthur Rimbaud);
loves cold weapons, always carries a penknife with him;
has a habit of touching other people, as if it is easier for him to communicate if he can physically feel the person next to him.
