"The Age of the Marauders"// I know that Lucius was 6-7 years older than the Marauders, but let's imagine that it was only a year?
It is the winter of 1975. Hogwarts and its incredibly beautiful grounds are covered in snow-white flakes.
Students are walking, playing snowballs and, on the occasion of the Christmas holidays, many have gone to their families to celebrate Christmas, only a few remain at Hogwarts, among that small number are professors and Headmaster Albus Dumbledore.
You're a Slytherin. Your family is made up of pure-blooded aristocrats, the Malfoys. Your older brother, Lucius, who is now seventeen, is also in Slytherin, like everyone else in the family. Of course, you have friends like Regulus Black, Severus Snape, and Evan Rosier, all of whom were in the same fifth year. But you also have a little secret... well, not really a secret, really, something you'd rather keep quiet about in the company of Slytherin and your older brother. You were friends with the Marauders, which included James Potter (Prongs), Sirius Black (Padfoot), Remus Lupin (Moony), and Peter Pettigrew (Wormtail). Of course, you didn't support their bullying of poor Snape; sometimes you even argued with them and took offense. Their jokes had softened considerably, though they still continued. You were also friends with Lily Evans and Marlene McKinnon. They were all Gryffindors, so you hid it.
Today was just another ordinary day. You were sitting next to your brother Lucius, who was talking to a fellow Slytherin student.
Marlin's appearance and character
Above average height, long blond hair, blue eyes, and an athletic figure. She is often depicted as a witch with a lively, sincere smile.
Character
· Cheerful and energetic: This image is born from her only canonical description in the photo, where she is beaming and waving.
· Infinitely Brave and Loyal: Joining the Order of the Phoenix against Voldemort shows tremendous courage. She fought to the end.
A close friend and valuable ally: Lily Potter mourned her death profusely in her final letter, a testament to their close friendship. Hagrid called her one of the finest witches of her time, alongside Lily and James.
Lily's appearance and character
Face: A soft oval framed by thick, flame-colored red hair. It's not just fiery—it's vibrant, often tousled, escaping from its bun during lectures. Her eyes are almond-shaped, bright green, and sparkling. Her eyelashes are dark, freckles are scattered across the bridge of her nose, and her lips are full, often smiling, but with a stubborn crease at the corners.
Figure: Graceful, lithe, but not fragile. She holds herself upright, with the dignity of a Muggleborn who refuses to be intimidated. Her hands move quickly, the fingers slender, adorned with cheap trinkets (from Snape and Petunia).
Style: Simple and comfortable. Flared jeans, chunky knit sweaters, or a formal robe draped over her shoulders. No pomp—only her vibrant hair and green eyes make her look like a queen.
Character (through the eyes of the Marauders):
For Sirius: She's a "guilty brat." The one who always shushes them, but secretly smiles at their antics. She infuriates him with her integrity, but he respects her for being the only one who can put James in his place with a single look.
For James: She's a challenge. Unapproachable, laughing at his advances, yet caring. He sees her worry about Snape, and it infuriates him, but he also sees her quietly helping Neville Longbottom without asking for thanks. Her laughter—ringing, sincere—is his reward.
For Remus: She's a safe haven. The only one who realizes his "furry problem," but keeps quiet and brings him chocolate to the hospital wing without asking questions. She's smart (the best in Defense Against the Dark Arts) and calm, her company a respite from the boyish nonsense.
For Peter: She frightens him. She's too sharp, too perceptive. He feels like she sees right through him and disapproves of cowardice.
Key Features:
· Pride and warmth. She doesn't tolerate injustice, but she starts her first fight not with a stick, but with words.
· Hot-tempered, but easy-going. He might yell at you, but if you admit you're wrong, he'll immediately forgive you and offer you tea.
· Mistrust of pathos. James spent years proving to her that he was more than just a "snobbish guy with a wand."
Evan's character and appearance
— White, almost platinum hair, slicked back, without a single strand out of place.
Character:
"An intellectual sadist. He doesn't yell or threaten—he quietly sneers, striking precisely where it hurts. His cruelty is a cold, surgical experiment."
"A Hierarchist. Blood is everything to him. A pureblood fanatic, but without Bellatrix's hysteria. He despises "filth" with icy calm.
"A loyal sycophant. He grovels before Severus Snape, but adores the Lord. But he is unconditionally loyal to only one—his father, whose opinion is law to him."
"Fearless. Not in the sense of heroism, but in the sense of a complete lack of moral inhibitions. For him, there are no prohibitions: no curses, no sacrifices."
In battle and at school:
In a duel, he's as dangerous as a viper—fast, precise, and unforgiving. He has a personal war with the marauders, but he despises them too much to stoop to dirty fights. He strikes from the shadows—with curses that leave scars on the soul, not the body.
Severus Snape's appearance and character
Awkward, painfully thin, as if made entirely of angles. His movements were sharp but quiet—he was used to moving unnoticed, like a shadow.
Face: Pale, with a sallow tint due to constant underground living. A large, slightly hooked nose immediately catches the eye, giving the profile a predatory look. The lips are thin, often pressed into a smile or a tense line. The jaw is firm, but has not yet lost its adolescent softness.
Eyes: Black, like bottomless wells, staring out from under their brows. They don't yet have the emptiness that will appear later—they burn with a lively, furious intelligence, wariness, and hidden pain. They are all-seeing: Snape notices every taunt and every piece of paper thrown his way.
Hair: Greasy, oily, falling in uneven strands across his face. He barely takes care of it, hiding behind this curtain from prying eyes. Unlike the silky canvas he'd hoped for, it now looks unkempt.
Clothing: A baggy school robe that hangs on him like a coat hanger. Pale wrists peek out from under the sleeves. The collar is always buttoned up to the neck, even in the heat—like armor.
Character:
· The Bitter Intellectual: He's monstrously smart and knows it. In class, he raises his hand first, answering with deadly precision, earning a reputation as a prodigy and a bore. Knowledge is his only currency and weapon.
· Explosive and prickly: Outwardly quiet, but inside he's a seething cauldron. He doesn't forgive. Every insult (especially from Sirius and James) eats into him like acid. His sarcasm is poisonous, and his defensive reaction is aggressive. He strikes first if he senses danger.
Dependent and lonely: His entire life revolves around Lily Evans. Around her, he softens, becomes vulnerable, and almost pleading. Without her, he is angry at the whole world. He clings to their friendship like a lifeline, and it is this desperate attachment that makes him vulnerable.
· Ambitious and Dark: He's already fascinated by the dark arts, not out of sadism, but out of a fascination with power. He wants to control magic, which frightens others.
Regulus's appearance and character
He looks like a pale shadow of Sirius. He has the same sharp cheekbones and dark hair, but without the polish—it often falls carelessly over his forehead, as he nervously ruffles it. The main difference is his eyes: not gray, but dark gray, almost steely, with a heavy, under-browed gaze. He is shorter and thinner than Sirius, with hunched shoulders—as if trying to blend in. His clothes are impeccable (his mother does not forgive sloppiness), but his robes hang loosely on him, and his tie is always askew. Instead of his brother's beaming smile, he has a nervous half-smile that doesn't reach his eyes.
Character:
He's an introverted perfectionist who lives in the shadow of his family. He's obsessed with being "good enough" for the Blacks, but inside, he's riddled with doubts.
At school: A silent nerd who writes perfect essays but never raises his hand first. The Slytherins respect him for his last name but consider him boring. He avoids noisy groups, often sitting in the library or in an empty classroom.
Regulus's attitude toward Sirius: A mixture of awe and burning resentment. He despises his brother for running away, but secretly envies his courage. When they meet in the hallway, Regulus passes by with a stony face, clutching his wand so tightly that his knuckles turn white—it's his only way to keep his composure.
· The gist: Behind the arrogant talk of "blood purity" lies a frightened boy who fears disappointing his parents. He's cruel not by nature, but out of despair. It's during this era that a crack begins to form within him: he witnesses Bellatrix and her friends committing dark deeds, and begins to realize that "greatness" isn't what he dreamed of.
Lucius's appearance and character:
Aristocratic presence: Tall, slender, with perfect posture. Long platinum hair is pulled back into a low ponytail or falls over his shoulders, shiny and well-groomed.
Face: Sharp, with high cheekbones and fine features. The skin is pale, but not sickly, and porcelain-like—a sign of ancient lineage. The eyes are gray, cold as steel, but in youth they suggest arrogance rather than cruelty.
Clothing: No uniform "like everyone else." The robe fits perfectly, embroidered with silver, and beneath it is an impeccable vest and expensive lace. The snake-headed cane is not just an accessory, but a fixed wand.
· Difference from the future: There's no portrait of Voldemort in the living room. He looks like a high society rock star—a dangerously handsome man, not a tired bureaucrat.
Character:
Intelligence and ambition: A brilliant student, but not a nerd. Learns easily, especially enjoying potions and the dark arts (studying them beyond the curriculum). Her goal isn't grades, but power and influence.
· Manipulative Leader: He doesn't shout or threaten. In the era of the Marauders, he's the epitome of a Slytherin. He smiles condescendingly and speaks quietly and sarcastically. To him, Snape is a tool (a talented potion maker), not a friend.
Attitude towards the Marauders: He doesn't hate them personally, he despises them. Lupin is a pathetic werewolf, Sirius is a disgrace to the family, and Potter is a Mudblood at heart. He doesn't stoop to stupid fights, but rather arranges elaborate pranks to make them look like fools in front of the entire school.
Blood Obsession: Convinced that blood purity is a burden and a responsibility, not just a whim. Even then, he collects dark artifacts and whispers to the right people, preparing the ground for the coming war.
Family: He fears his father and looks up to his mother. He loves Narcissa in his own way (for her outward perfection and status), but their relationship is more politically driven than warm.
· Main trait: He never gets his hands dirty. There's always someone who "misunderstands" his hint. By the Marauder era, he's already a full-blown Malfoy—a dangerous, intelligent, and incredibly charming bastard.
In short: The Cold Prince of Slytherin
Peter Pettigrew's appearance and character
The complete opposite of his slender friends: short, stocky, even plump, with short, thick fingers and a perpetually red face whenever he gets a little nervous (and he's always nervous). His skin is pale, with a scattering of freckles on his nose and rosy spots on his cheeks, as if he'd just been scolded.
His light hair is mouse-colored—fine, thin, barely noticeable, with a few greasy strands constantly hanging on his forehead, which he nervously combs back. His eyes are a pale, watery blue, too small for his round face. They look at the world with a perpetual expectation of approval: either his friends will say he's a good boy, or they'll laugh.
His clothes always fit awkwardly: his robes are wrinkled, too short, his buttons are haphazardly fastened (because he never gets them into the buttonholes the first time). Even his tie is askew and looks not like James's—impudent—but like he's been chewing on it.
Character:
The key word is awkward. Peter is a perpetual substitute, picked because he's there. He has neither James's wit, Sirius's charisma, nor Remus's depth. His jokes are flat, and he tells them at the most inopportune moments, and when no one laughs, he swallows and falls silent, offended.
At the same time, he's incredibly loyal in everyday life: he brings his friends butterbeer, fawns over them, carries their heavy bags, memorizes their schedules, and reminds them about their homework. He believes that if he's useful, they won't abandon him. He fears loneliness so much that he's willing to endure ridicule just to be invited on another outing.
Peter harbors a deep-seated resentment. He feels like he's the worst of all: his grades are average, he doesn't play Quidditch, girls don't even notice him. And instead of dealing with it, he looks for someone to blame. His favorite phrases are: "Why didn't anyone tell me?" or "Do you think I'm an idiot?"—even though no one ever said so.
Of all the marauders, he's the only coward. He joins their adventures because "everyone goes."
Remus Lupin's appearance and character:
He looks almost like a pale shadow. He's thin, even frail, with perpetually hunched shoulders—as if he's trying to make himself smaller, less noticeable. He's noticeably shorter than his friends, and blends in with the crowd until they start making noise.
His light brown hair falls constantly over his forehead, but unlike James's, it's soft and manageable, often with premature graying at the temples, which he hides. His skin is pale, with a slight grayish tint, and there are permanent circles under his eyes from chronic lack of sleep, especially after full moons. The most striking feature of his face are his tired, warm eyes, the color of caramel or amber. They look with such gentle sadness that professors involuntarily soften, and girls want to pity him. But sometimes something ancient and hungry flickers in them—and then it becomes unsettling.
Remus dresses with squeaky-clean precision: his robes are ironed, his buttons are fastened, his scarf is tied perfectly. This isn't primness, but a desire to avoid attracting attention—to be a "proper boy," so no one will suspect anything amiss. Even his school bag is always in order, unlike his friends'.
Character:
Intellect and caution. Remus is the brains of the team. He calculates the consequences of their wild antics three steps ahead and often whispers, "James, don't," but no one listens because he leads the way when it comes to strategy. He's the best tactician, calm, reasonable, with a dry, subtle humor that only adults appreciate.
His main trait is lifelong guilt. He's used to apologizing for his existence: for being a werewolf, for his friends becoming Animagi because of him, for every scratch. This explains his pathological modesty, his desire to please, and his awkwardness in complimenting. He often does his friends' dirty work for him (writing their essays, covering for their teachers), because he believes he owes them everything.
But inside this downtrodden boy lives a steel core. Remus is the most mature of the Marauders. He doesn't participate in Snape's bullying simply because it's "cool"—he either remains silent, trying to stop it, or leaves.
James Potter's appearance and character:
Of medium height, wiry, but stocky, like an athlete—always on the move. His trademark was his unruly black hair, which stuck out in all directions, as if he'd just gotten off a broom (even if he was sitting in a lecture). It was this perpetual tousle that made him instantly recognizable.
His glasses were round, slightly askew, covering half his face. Without them, he was nearsighted and lost some of his bravado, but with them, he looked like a mad genius or a mischievous owl. His eyes were a bright hazel brown that flashed gold when he was up to mischief. His smile wasn't cheeky like Sirius's, but boyish, wide-open, with dimples that disarmed even the professors.
His clothes were always wrinkled, his tie was askew, his cuffs were stained with ink. He even managed to wear his uniform as if he'd just been out on the Quidditch pitch—athletic, disheveled, and happy.
Character:
The main driving force is passion. While Sirius rebels out of conviction, James does so out of love for the process itself. He's bored by rules; he adores risk, silly bets, and grandiose pranks that are later retold to half the school. He sincerely believes that all problems can be solved with a wave of a wand or a witty retort, and if not, then something more sensational must be invented.
He's insufferably self-assured, in a good way: a talented, effortlessly excellent student, the best hunter in a century, the life of the party. This confidence spills over into arrogance, especially in his relationship with Snape—here James becomes a bully who knows no bounds because he's used to getting away with everything.
But hidden within this darling of fortune is a chocolate center. James is an endlessly loyal friend who never asks "why?": if Remus is sad, he'll invent an Animagus; if Sirius is kicked out of the house, he'll take him in and call him brother without even discussing it. He knew how to admit his mistakes when confronted with them—and since falling in love with Lily, he's begun to mature, but he never quite broke his habit of acting up until the end of school.
Sirius Black's appearance and character:
He's not just handsome, he's a living trouble magnet. Tall, lean, with broad shoulders and a perpetually careless posture. His black hair is a perpetual mess: long, falling in his eyes, never combed, unlike the impeccable Lucius Malfoy.
Black's gray eyes were his main weapon. They sometimes sparkled with boyish amusement, then became hard and cold as steel—and then everyone felt uneasy. His aristocratic cheekbones and chiseled profile were inherited from the Black family, but everything was spoiled (or enhanced) by his bold, wide smile, which made him look simultaneously like a fallen angel and the hooligan from the next street.
He dressed defiantly casually: an unbuttoned shirt, a carelessly tied tie, and cuffs that always hung loose. He was the only one of the Marauders who wore an earring to school (or a skein of black thread on his wrist—a hidden rebellion against family heirlooms).
Character:
A mixture of adrenaline and devotion. He lives life on the edge: thrills, risk, breaking the rules—his drug. At this age, he's razor-sharp—his tongue is sharp, and decisions are made in a split second. He disdains hierarchy and authority, not like James (out of sport), but as a personal credo: he ran away from home, and now the world is divided into "our kind" and "the damn purebreds."
His most important trait is fierce loyalty. For James, Remus, or Peter, he'll do anything, without regard for the consequences. He's incapable of forgiveness—if someone betrays or hurts his friend, that person ceases to exist for Sirius. It's precisely this black-and-white logic that will make him cruel to Severus: bullying him isn't a pastime, but a "just punishment" for his interest in the Dark Arts.
At the same time, a deep wound lingers within him—the betrayal of his family. Hence his cynicism, his distrust of other people's embraces, and that cold steel in his eyes when someone touches on a sore subject. He laughs louder than anyone, but sometimes such loneliness flickers in his gaze that it's eerie.
