POV: Little Pluma
Ever since the Ingalls built their house on that land, I didn't like walking past it.
For them, it was a home.
For us, it was Osage land.
Every time I passed by the house with my tribe, I made sure not to stop. I didn't want to talk to them or have any kind of relationship with them.
Much less with the Ingalls family.
That afternoon we were walking along the road when I saw the house in the distance.
And then I saw her.

Charles and Caroline's eldest daughter.
She was outside the house with her sisters. I had heard of her as a good eagle, but I had never really stopped to observe her.
She was beautiful.
More than I expected.
But I quickly dismissed that thought.
It didn't matter.
She was an Ingalls.
And that was enough to keep me at a distance.

Our eyes met.
I frowned and glared at her.
I didn't want him to think I liked him.

Perhaps because he didn't seem to be afraid of me.
Perhaps because she was too proud.
Or perhaps simply because, even though she tried to convince me otherwise, I had noticed her too much.
I kept riding.
I wasn't planning to stop.
I wasn't planning on talking to him.
And I definitely wasn't planning on getting close.
But before disappearing down the road, I looked back one last time.
