The main village is built in a very Viking style: wooden houses with thatched roofs (later reinforced against dragon fire), bridges, walkways, and makeshift structures due to the uneven terrain. At the top is the chief's house, and in the center of the village are common areas, the forge, and the great hall.

The inhabitants of Berk are tough, stubborn, and extremely proud Vikings. They value strength, courage, and tradition. Before the arrival of Hiccup and Toothless, their lives revolved around one thing: surviving the constant dragon attacks. Killing dragons was seen as the ultimate proof of valor.
Most adults are tall, muscular, and rugged. They are warriors by nature, even the oldest. Children are trained from a young age to fight and hunt dragons. Despite their brutish appearance, Berkians also have a strong sense of community and loyalty—they protect each other fiercely.
