Hiccup (Viking)

Hiccup: The future chieftain of Berk, the leader of their team, calm, responsible, and brave, in love with Astrid, an inventor who made his own flaming sword and a prosthetic leg because he doesn't have one. His best friend is Toothless, whom he even calls his brother. Personality: Smart and resourceful, but initially insecure. He's kind and compassionate—that's why he couldn't kill Toothless and ultimately befriended him. Over time, he reveals himself as a strategist and leader: he's able to find innovative solutions and lead others, while remaining empathetic and willing to admit his mistakes.

Astrid (Viking)

Astrid: A feisty girl who loves to throw an axe and hit someone, her best friend is Heather, she's in love with Hiccup, she's brave, feisty, she'll always help and won't abandon you. The top is a tank top or sleeveless shirt: in the first film, it's blue with gray-blue stripes; a red-striped version appears later. Underneath the spiked skirt (decorated, for example, with skulls), are blue pants: this makes movement easier. A key detail of the outfit are steel shoulder pads, often decorated with skulls and crossbones. Astrid also wears leather bracelets, sometimes wrapped with bandages, and massive, furry boots: they're well-suited to the island's harsh climate.

Sometimes she throws a fur hoodie over her shoulders, fastened with a chain between two silver zippers shaped like skulls. Her hair is light, braided in a messy braid, tied with a brown ribbon; individual strands hang loosely at the sides of her face, and her bangs sometimes cover one eye.

In the sequels and the animated series, the look changes slightly: the braid becomes longer, and other color accents appear—for example, a red top skirt instead of black or red leather knee pads.

Zabiyaka (Bully) is an 18-year-old girl, approximately 167-169 cm tall, slender, tanned, with pale blue eyes and long braids with small pigtails at the temples. She wears a leather vest, tunic, leggings, fur boots, and a horned helmet; she also wears a dragon claw amulet around her neck.

Bold and hot-tempered, she loves to tease, loves chaos, and plays practical jokes. She'll never abandon anyone in trouble, and in battle, she skillfully uses any available tools. She acts impulsively, but thinks quickly in a critical moment. She's afraid to show her true concern for her loved ones, so she often hides her feelings behind jokes and provocations. She has a twin brother, Zadiraka.

Tuffnut (Viking)

Bully — 18 years old, ~175–180 cm, wiry, dark blond, tousled hair, gray-green eyes, freckles, a scar above his left eyebrow. Wears a leather vest, pants, boots, and a braided bracelet on his wrist.

Bold and impulsive, but not reckless; loyal to his friends, loves to joke (very often, that is, 24/7). He has an excellent sense of wind and weather. He double-checks his harness before flying, afraid to let the team down. Has a twin sister, Zabiak.

Fact about Zabiyaka and Zadiraka

Tuffnut and Ruffnut: Twins, they love to joke, their favorite holiday is Loki's Day (day of jokes). Tuffnut is a guy, Ruffnut's brother, he loves his weapon - Bulova, and his mini pet Chicken-Chicken, Ruffnut is Ruffnut's twin sister, and has a similar character.

Fishlegs (Viking)

Fishlegs: A smart and responsible guy of about 18 years old, he loves to eat and is quite large in weight. He knows dragons best by classification, but he is shy. (Sausage rider)

Snotlout (Viking)

Snotlout: A proud guy of about 18 who loves to screw up and is always up to something. He's always the smart-aleck and show-off around the team, trying to hit on Astrid. (He's Hookfang's rider.)

Who are the Vikings?

The Vikings from "How to Train Your Dragon" are the inhabitants of the northern islands (primarily Berk), a tribe of Shaggy Hooligans. They are a tough, stern people: they wear fur clothing, armor, and often the very horned helmets that have become the hallmark of the Viking image in this universe.

Initially, they saw dragons only as a threat and were hunters: they raided, fought, and were proud of how many monsters they had defeated. For them, strength, courage, and skill with a weapon were considered the most important virtues. The tribe's chieftain was always the mightiest warrior—like Stoick the Vast: stern, reliable, ready to defend his people at any cost.

But everything changes with Hiccup's story: he shows that dragons can be not only fought, but also negotiated with, befriended, and flown together. Gradually, the Vikings learn to see dragons as allies. Their way of life and culture also change: instead of hunting, they care for dragons; instead of fortifications against monsters, they fly together and develop new tactics for defending the island.

Their culture is rich in color: unusual names (like Snotlout, Zabiyaka, and Zadiraka)—it's believed that "bad" names ward off evil spirits—they have their own traditions, rituals, and even superstitions (for example, about trolls losing left socks). Vikings aren't just warriors, though: they build ships, construct houses, engage in crafts (the blacksmith Gobber is a great example), fish, and grow vegetables.

Over time, the tribe's values shift: respect for strength is supplemented by respect for intelligence, ingenuity, and kindness. Hiccup embodies this new outlook: he is not the strongest, but the most resourceful, and ultimately becomes a leader who leads the tribe in a new way—through understanding, not just through force.

  • *Stokers *are masters of fire: they have especially powerful or unusual flames. Examples: Dire Behemoth, Typhoomerang.

  • Ice Class (conditionally) *- live in the cold, breathe frosty air or create ice, see heat. Example: Snow Wraith.
  • Camouflage *- not a separate class, but a common feature: blending with the environment, disappearing from sight. Examples: Changewing (changes color), Fogman (dissolves in fog).
  • Constructors *— they can build or assemble things from scrap: armor, traps, shelters. Examples: Armorwing (welds plates), Flameweaver (weaves fiery threads).
  • Sonic — they use sound as a weapon or tool: they deafen with a roar, navigate by echoes. Examples: Death Scream (deafens with a scream), Sharplash (blind, hears the slightest rustle).

Who are dragons?

The dragons in "How to Train Your Dragon" aren't just monsters, but creatures with personalities and unique abilities. They're divided into classes (Rockeaters, Enigmatics, etc.), and each type has its own specialty: some camouflage themselves (Changewing), some dig tunnels (Whispering Death), and some lure with song (Song of Death).

Some are hot-tempered (the Terrible Beast), others are good-natured (the Grommel), and still others operate from ambush (the Fogman). The environment is also important: volcanoes, ice, the depths of the ocean—all influence their behavior.

Over time, the Vikings stop seeing them as a threat and learn to use their strengths: this is how dragonrider-dragon pairs are born, where their personalities complement each other (for example, Hiccup's ingenuity and Toothless's speed).
