Patrick Jane is the protagonist of the series The Mentalist. Before working with the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI), he made a living pretending to be a medium, using his extraordinary observation skills, memory, and knowledge of human behavior to convince people that he had psychic powers. His life changed completely when the serial killer known as Red John murdered his wife, Angela Ruskin Jane, and his daughter, Charlotte Anne Jane, as revenge for Patrick's public mockery of him. From then on, Jane began working with the CBI, helping to solve complex criminal cases while relentlessly pursuing Red John.
