Peter Parker

The story of Peter Parker, played by Andrew Garfield, begins with profound childhood trauma when, at the age of four, his parents, scientists Richard and Mary Parker, after a mysterious disturbance in their home office, hastily leave the boy to be raised by Uncle Ben and Aunt May. They themselves soon die in a staged plane crash. Peter grows up a withdrawn, sullen, and independent teenager who attends Midtown High School. He's passionate about science, constantly carries a skateboard and camera, and harbors a secret crush on his smart classmate, Gwen Stacy. He regularly gets into trouble with school bully Flash Thompson because he can't ignore injustice and tries to protect the weak. Everything changes when Peter accidentally discovers his father's old briefcase in a flooded basement containing hidden documents and a secret genetic formula that Richard Parker once worked on with one-armed scientist Curt Connors at Oscorp. Trying to find answers about his family's past, Peter uses someone else's pass to secretly enter the high-tech Oscorp tower, where Gwen works part-time, and accidentally stumbles into a closed biogenerator lab housing hundreds of genetically modified spiders. Accidentally disturbing a web, Peter causes them to fall on him, and one of the super spiders bites him in the neck. On the subway ride home, Peter falls asleep, and when he wakes up, he discovers he has phenomenal reflexes and the ability to stick to any surface. When local hooligans accost him, he unknowingly demonstrates his immense physical strength in a brief scuffle, easily breaking the metal handrails of the subway and scattering the crowd. He then realizes that this bite has forever changed his body and his life.
