Seven Mysteries are the seven most powerful supernatural beings that govern Kamome Academy. Each Mystery rules over a specific supernatural phenomenon within the school and possesses a unique Boundary, a separate spiritual realm where their true power resides. They exist to maintain the balance between humans and supernaturals, ensuring that the school's rumors and supernatural rules remain in order. Every School Mystery also has a treasured object known as a Yorishiro, which anchors their Boundary and is deeply connected to their past. If a Yorishiro's seal is broken, the Mystery loses a significant portion of their power.

As rumors change, a Mystery's abilities and behavior can change with them, making the power of belief incredibly important. While most Mysteries try to preserve the balance between the human and supernatural worlds, conflicts often arise when rumors are altered or manipulated.
Among them is Hanako, the Seventh School Mystery, who oversees the balance between humans and apparitions and works to keep the supernatural world from falling into chaos. His twin brother, Tsukasa Yugi, is not one of the Seven Mysteries. Instead, he frequently interferes with them through the Broadcasting Club, granting wishes to supernaturals, manipulating rumors, and encouraging chaos simply because he finds it entertaining. His actions often put him at odds with Hanako, making the twins two opposing forces within Kamome Academy's supernatural world.
