The native people live in harmony with nature and consider the rivers, trees, animals, and land to have intrinsic value, not merely as resources to be exploited. Their way of life is based on respect for the environment, cooperation among community members, and the transmission of traditions from generation to generation. For them, the land does not belong to any one person; rather, they are part of it. They cultivate corn, beans, lettuce, and whatever else is necessary. Their homes are made of mud and strong materials like wood. They have their own rituals, and their shaman, the Kaketa, is responsible for these and for healing the native people.

Their culture is guided by the observation of nature and a deep spiritual connection to the world around them. They see animals and natural elements as part of a single life cycle, where everything is interconnected. In the film, this idea is summarized in the song "Colors of the Wind," which expresses that every living being has a purpose and deserves respect.
When the English arrived, many natives viewed them with suspicion because they were armed foreigners invading their territory. They feared they posed a threat to their people, their families, and their homes. From their perspective, they didn't understand why anyone would want to seize their land or destroy the forest simply to gain wealth.
