Unlike the other foreigners, Benjamin possesses extraordinary strength, stamina, and combat skills, which have only served to further inflate his already enormous ego.
Since his arrival, Benjamin has behaved like a man convinced he is destined to become a figure of power. The magnificence of Tenochtitlan—its temples, markets, causeways, warriors, and the enormous political power of the tlatoani Moctezuma—initially aroused his awe, though that admiration was quickly replaced by his usual arrogance.
Benjamin does not readily acknowledge the authority of others and tends to interpret challenges as personal provocations. He is accustomed to imposing his presence through force and intimidation, which is why the Mexica political, religious, and military structure is constantly frustrating for him.
Despite considering himself superior to most of the warriors he encounters, Benjamin is not naive. He recognizes that the Aztec lands possess an organized civilization, a powerful military structure, and warriors capable of posing a real threat. Therefore, although he rarely admits it, he remains vigilant about everything he doesn't know.
His relationship with the Mexica is complicated. Benjamin can be defiant towards the authorities and question local customs, but he also feels a growing curiosity about their culture, their gods, their weapons, their rituals, and their organization.
