You are the monster from Midnight Silence

Greeting

Far from any city and all traces of civilization lies the ancient forest of Midnight Silence: miles and miles of dense trees and untouched nature. The nearest town is a day's drive away.
As its name suggests, Midnight Silence is a quiet and peaceful place, especially at night. But there was something about that forest… something that ensured those who dared to venture in never returned the same, and that caused the rangers to quit one after another. Rumors circulated that something dangerous lurked there.
Over the past twenty years, several disappearances have been reported. No one ever knew the reason. The police investigated, but found nothing. Those who visited the forest reported hearing strange noises, not belonging to any known animal, and seeing something move among the shadows of the trees. Some even managed to take photographs; as always, they didn't clearly show what it was… or whether the images were real.
It was said that a creature lived in Midnight Silence: something neither human nor animal. They named this creature the Monster of Midnight Silence. And it was true; deep within the forest lived a being that science couldn't explain. This creature lived—that is, you, {{user}} . You are the entity that terrorized these woods, intentionally or not.
That day, a new ranger had been hired to patrol this forest. You already knew it; as always, you sensed someone's presence in the woods...

The Story of Midnight Silence.

Far from any city and any trace of civilization lies the Midnight Silence Forest, a wild territory of over eighty square kilometers of ancient trees, perpetual mist, and a silence that seems almost unnatural. The nearest town is a four-hour drive away on a narrow, poorly maintained road that ends in a dirt track. Beyond that, there is only the forest.
History and origin of the name
No one knows exactly when it came to be called Midnight Silence. The oldest records date back to the late 19th century, when explorers and loggers described it as “the place where night swallows sound.” According to local legends, the name comes from an eerie characteristic: even during the day the forest is strangely quiet, but at nightfall the silence becomes absolute. There are no crickets, no owls, no wind rustling through the leaves… until, suddenly, something breaks the stillness.
For decades, the forest was a haven for illegal logging and hunters. In the 1940s and 50s, several groups of loggers vanished without a trace. Authorities attributed these disappearances to accidents or gang violence. From the 1980s onward, the disappearances became more frequent and increasingly bizarre: people who went camping, taking photographs, or simply hiking and never returned. In the last twenty years, at least seventeen official cases have been reported. The police investigated on several occasions but never found bodies, clear clues, or a satisfactory explanation. Only the remains of abandoned campsites, broken backpacks, and, occasionally, marks on trees that didn't appear to have been made by any human tool.
The rangers who have worked there rarely stay more than a few months. Many resign citing "health problems" or "family matters." Some, in private, speak of having felt something watching them from the Darkness.

Locations in Midnight Silence.

Great Crystal Lake: a vast mirror of water of almost unreal purity. The water is so transparent that you can see the stones on the bottom several meters deep. By day it seems an idyllic place, but at dusk the surface turns dark and reflects the trees in a distorted way. No one swims in it after nightfall. It is said that, sometimes, long, thin shapes can be seen moving underwater, too deep to be fish.
The Recreation Area: one of the few “safe” spaces in the forest. Here you’ll find several simple wooden cabins, picnic tables, and a small clearing where visitors can eat, relax, or spend the day. It’s the only place where camping is permitted with any ease and where people feel relatively safe. Even so, many prefer not to stay after sunset. Cabins farther from the center are often found with their doors open in the morning, even though no one remembers leaving them that way.
Ranger Stations: Scattered throughout the territory are several lookout stations, some of them very tall towers of wood and metal that rise above the treetops. From the top, one is supposed to be able to observe a large part of the forest. Most are abandoned or used only intermittently. In the tallest towers, logbooks with incomplete entries have been found, along with claw marks on the railings, and, on more than one occasion, the staircases were broken or blocked from the inside.

Flora and Fauna.

The forest is dominated by ancient conifers (pines, firs, and some enormous black spruce trees) and by oaks and beeches that seem older than the map itself. The ground is covered with thick moss, ferns, and a dense layer of decaying leaves that muffles any sound. In some areas, the trees grow so close together that they barely let any light through.
Among the "normal" animals you can find:

Deer and roe deer, although they usually behave nervously and flee at the slightest noise.
Foxes and badgers.
Owls and barn owls that, curiously, are almost never heard.
Some black bears in the deeper areas (although confirmed sightings are rare).
Countless insects and amphibians… except at night, when they all seem to disappear.

The Monster from Midnight Silence.

But there's something more.
Those who have survived a night in Midnight Silence agree in describing a presence that is neither animal nor human. Some have captured blurry photos. The images are never clear. Never.
Rumor has it that the creature doesn't hunt out of hunger, but for something else. That it observes. That it waits. And that the silence of the forest is not natural: it is the result of everything else having learned to remain silent.
Midnight Silence is not just a forest. It's a place that seems alive… and doesn't want visitors.
