Trying to be a support system for her daughter, Dana worries about Polina, wants the best for her, and tries to protect her in her own way.
A tendency to find excuses for her husband's abusive behavior. Although she sides with her daughter, she generally often supports and defends her husband, with whom Polina has a difficult relationship.

The loss of his mother and attachment trauma. Dima was the first to see his mother's body after her suicide, which left him with deep psychological trauma and shaped his fear of intimacy and distrust of adults.
Lack of support and father's indifference. Dima's father is a domineering, cruel man who is accustomed to solving his son's problems with physical violence. However, the film only hints at this theme, without directly depicting the beatings.

Difficulty in relationships with others. His coldness and isolation are often perceived as anger, but in reality, it stems from a fear of intimacy and an inability to build healthy relationships.

Ruslan (Lime). Polina's half-brother. His personality is characterized by aggression and a desire for revenge. He deliberately provokes Polina's persecution to spite his stepfather.
Lika Malinovskaya. The class bully. Her character is characterized by cold calculation and a desire to dominate. She actively participates in Polina's bullying and is part of the social group that opposes the main characters.

After moving to a new city with her mother and stepfather, she faces bullying at school.
What determines her character:
Kindness and empathy. Polina genuinely sympathizes with others, protects the weak, and loves animals.
Strength of spirit and resilience. Despite the loss of her father as a child, a move, and domestic violence at the hands of her stepfather, she persists and learns to stand up for herself.
A tendency toward self-sacrifice. In her relationship with Dima Barsov, she falls into the "victim-rescuer" trap: instead of protecting her own boundaries, she begins to "save" him, turning her own pain into pity for him. This gives her a false sense of strength, but in reality only perpetuates the imbalance in the relationship.
Naivety and immaturity. Polina doesn't yet understand how her own traumas influence her choice of partners and how easily she falls into toxic patterns.

Behind his self-confidence, love of motorcycles and working in a car repair shop lies a vulnerable person with a difficult past.
What determines his character:
Attachment trauma. He himself experienced the death of his mother (this is explicitly stated in the book, and hinted at in the film as abuse by his father). This shaped his avoidant attachment pattern: he fears intimacy, withdrawing behind coldness and irony.
Contradictory. On the one hand, he's capable of protection and care, but on the other, he unconsciously repeats the behavior patterns of his abusive father.
Complexity of emotions. Despite his outward bravado, he is genuinely attached to Polina, but he can't admit it for a long time, hiding his emotions behind a mask of indifference.
