Polina and the leopard, not the whole story.
Description of the action: A young girl had to move with her family to another city due to the death of her father. Now Polina has a stepfather, Andrei. After the move, Polina, looking out the window, saw a couple on the balcony of a neighbor in a straight line. It was Bars [Dima] and Sasha. They were kissing. At that moment, Polina was filming the view from the window and accidentally filmed them without noticing. She was noticed and immediately went into the room. Next encounter: Polina was walking down the street. She heard meowing and saw a kitten in a box that had been thrown out in the trash. She was about to take it, but her stepfather noticed her and she disappeared into the university "like she hadn't left yet." But as soon as she came out from behind the door, she saw Bars taking the box.
Sasha
Andrey's daughter (the stepfather of the main character Polina) from his first marriage;
more conscious and mature compared to other heroes: grateful for good and does not hold a grudge against those who hurt her;
does not project the guilt of some people onto others, which makes her wiser than the other characters, including her parents;
has a warm relationship with her brother Ruslan (nickname - Lime);
The costume designer visually emphasized their relationship with clothes in lemon-acid colors, which refers to the Kislitsyn family name and Ruslan's nickname.
Dana, Polina's mother
A sincere love for her daughter. A warm, trusting relationship develops between her and Polina—they know how to talk and support each other.
Trying to be a support system for her daughter, Dana worries about Polina, wants the best for her, and tries to protect her in her own way.
A tendency to find excuses for her husband's abusive behavior. Although she sides with her daughter, she generally often supports and defends her husband, with whom Polina has a difficult relationship.
Indecisiveness in decision-making. For example, she remarries and moves with her daughter from her first marriage to another city, which may indicate her uncertainty about this step.
Dana's character adds a touch of realism to the story, showing how even loving parents can make mistakes and overlook the obvious, while remaining an important part of their child's life.
Polina's stepfather Andrey.
Emotional instability and aggression. Andrey is quick-tempered, abrupt in his words, and unable to control his emotions. Shouting is a regular occurrence in the house, and any conversation easily escalates into conflict.
A toxic family atmosphere. His nagging, pressure, and constant outbursts of anger create a difficult, toxic environment in the family, making it difficult to feel safe.
Abusive behavior. The character exhibits the traits of a weak-willed but cruel abuser: jealous of his spouse over trivial matters, threatening those who are weaker, throwing tantrums over trivial matters, and lying to protect himself.
Shame of his previous family. Andrey is ashamed of his previous family: for example, when his ex-wife is hospitalized, he refuses to let his daughter Sasha in and tries to buy her off with money.
Role in the plot: Andrey's character heightens the drama of the events. His behavior helps us understand why Polina so desperately needs support and protection outside the home.
Polina Tumanova's problems
Bullying. After moving to a new city, Polina ends up in an elite school where a rigid hierarchy has already been established. Popular girl Lika Malinovskaya and her circle begin to bully her: they make fun of her clothes and her withdrawn personality, and spread false rumors about her past. The bullying gradually escalates—Polina is humiliated in school chats, things are hidden, and videos are filmed and shared.
Difficulty adapting to a new environment. Polina feels like an outsider among her classmates, who already have established groups and rules.
Family and psychological problems
Losing a father. Polina's biological father died when she was little.
Conflict with the Stepfather. Several years after her husband's death, Polina's mother marries a man named Andrei, whom the girl immediately dislikes. The plot hints at problems in the family related to her stepfather's abuse.
Attachment trauma and the "rescuer" scenario. A psychological analysis of the film reveals that Polina unconsciously mimics the victim's behavior pattern. She falls into a trap where she tries to "save" Dima Barsov by justifying his cruelty and violating her own boundaries. This stems from her own traumatic experience and fear of vulnerability.
Loneliness and misunderstanding. Polina feels lonely, despite having childhood friends (Sasha and Igor Stepanov).
Dima Barsov's problems
The loss of his mother and attachment trauma. Dima was the first to see his mother's body after her suicide, which left him with deep psychological trauma and shaped his fear of intimacy and distrust of adults.
Lack of support and father's indifference. Dima's father is a domineering, cruel man who is accustomed to solving his son's problems with physical violence. However, the film only hints at this theme, without directly depicting the beatings.
Feelings of uselessness and loneliness. From an early age, Dima was forced to support himself and his mother, effectively becoming independent. He lives alone, unable to rely on his parents.
A toxic environment and rebellion. Dima rebels at school, is rude to teachers, and changes girlfriends like gloves, reflecting his attempt to protect himself from pain through aggression and denial.
Difficulty in relationships with others. His coldness and isolation are often perceived as anger, but in reality, it stems from a fear of intimacy and an inability to build healthy relationships.
antagonists
Ruslan (Lime). Polina's half-brother. His personality is characterized by aggression and a desire for revenge. He deliberately provokes Polina's persecution to spite his stepfather.
Lika Malinovskaya. The class bully. Her character is characterized by cold calculation and a desire to dominate. She actively participates in Polina's bullying and is part of the social group that opposes the main characters.
Polina Tumanova
After moving to a new city with her mother and stepfather, she faces bullying at school.
What determines her character:
Kindness and empathy. Polina genuinely sympathizes with others, protects the weak, and loves animals.
Strength of spirit and resilience. Despite the loss of her father as a child, a move, and domestic violence at the hands of her stepfather, she persists and learns to stand up for herself.
A tendency toward self-sacrifice. In her relationship with Dima Barsov, she falls into the "victim-rescuer" trap: instead of protecting her own boundaries, she begins to "save" him, turning her own pain into pity for him. This gives her a false sense of strength, but in reality only perpetuates the imbalance in the relationship.
Naivety and immaturity. Polina doesn't yet understand how her own traumas influence her choice of partners and how easily she falls into toxic patterns.
Dima Barsov [Bars]
Behind his self-confidence, love of motorcycles and working in a car repair shop lies a vulnerable person with a difficult past.
What determines his character:
Attachment trauma. He himself experienced the death of his mother (this is explicitly stated in the book, and hinted at in the film as abuse by his father). This shaped his avoidant attachment pattern: he fears intimacy, withdrawing behind coldness and irony.
Contradictory. On the one hand, he's capable of protection and care, but on the other, he unconsciously repeats the behavior patterns of his abusive father.
Complexity of emotions. Despite his outward bravado, he is genuinely attached to Polina, but he can't admit it for a long time, hiding his emotions behind a mask of indifference.
