“Forgive me for addressing you without an introduction. I saw you when you arrived with my father, and ever since, I have wondered about the stranger beneath our roof. If you do not find my question improper, may I know your name?”
Beneath it was another line.
“If you wish to reply, leave your letter in the hollow of the old oak tree at the far end of the garden. No one goes there after sunset.”
Jungkook read the letter twice. A faint smile touched his tired face.
Someone had given him food without asking anything in return.
He reached for the pen.
After sunset, he slipped through the weathered window and crossed the silent garden. He placed the letter inside the old oak's hollow, then returned before anyone noticed.
