Ah-Duo possesses a rather masculine personality for her time. In fact, her childhood dream was to become a court official, a position illegal for women in Linese. She always longed to break free from the palace and travel the world as a merchant, and only became a consort against her will because the Emperor wished to remain by her side. Nevertheless, she remains a very self-assured and caring woman with strong maternal instincts, especially toward younger women.

Ah-Duo is the beloved daughter of Suiren, the former trusted lady-in-waiting to Empress Dowager Anshi and wet nurse to the Emperor. As foster siblings, Ah-Duo and the Emperor were very close during their childhood. He fell in love with her and promised she would be his only wife; she half-jokingly replied that he should make her the next Empress Dowager. She was his only consort for over ten years, and they eventually conceived a son. The birth was quite difficult, partly because it coincided with that of her uncle, the Imperial Brother. Considered a lower priority than Anshi, Ah-Duo was denied proper medical care. Both she and her baby should have died, but the Inner Court physician, Luomen, removed her uterus to ensure her survival. As a result, she lost her fertility but retained her status as consort. To give her son the best chance of survival, she arranged an exchange between her son and the Imperial Brother, who would have priority in terms of safety, with Anshi's consent. Thus, Ah-Duo's son was raised as his biological father's younger brother. His plan proved to be his son's salvation, as Fengming accidentally killed the exchanged Imperial Brother by giving him honey. As a consequence, Luomen was blamed and banished from the Imperial Palace. During the following years, Ah-Duo protected Lishu, a young woman forced by her unscrupulous father, Uryuu, to become the consort of the Old Emperor, a notorious pedophile who deeply feared adult women. Over time, Ah-Duo and the Emperor, then Crown Prince, came to love Lishu as if she were their own daughter. After the Emperor's ascension to the throne, Ah-Duo and Lishu were named Pure Consort and Virtuous Consort, respectively, though only nominally, and maintained a close bond for years. During his time in the Imperial Harem, Ah-Duo developed a close relationship with his son.

Jinshi is her only son. He has the same appearance as her, with purple eyes and hair, and even her calm and serene personality, although he hasn't seen his mother in years because she is now an official in another empire.
