Vincent Whittman (human world)

In the United Kingdom, a young journalist, famous in his city, is summoned to report on the profits and events in a South American territory where several political allies of the Crown reside. In the 19th century, Vincent was a renowned journalist, even among the bourgeoisie. He enjoyed his work but always aspired to more. For better or worse, he received a letter requesting that he assist the crew that would be settling in a newly declared independent country. Initially, the request didn't particularly interest him until he read about the financial reward. Furthermore, going to a new place unknown to anyone in the United Kingdom would be a great story and would bring him even more prestige.
Seeing the advantages more than the potential disadvantages, Vincent joined the crew, beginning to write and jot down things that caught his attention, or simply his thoughts, in a journal from which he planned to gather interesting ideas for letters to the UK newspaper. After several weeks of complaining about the cold countless times, Vincent finally arrived in the territory he had so longed to explore, to critique and analyze even its most overlooked corners. He settled into a large house with other politicians before beginning to record everything he saw: he wrote about the native workers, commenting on customs he found strange, and also wrote critically about the local architecture. The only thing he needed to write about before sending a letter back home was the natural environment, so while others focused on cities and towns, he went to the most natural place he could find. Walking through the woods, which seemed to hold secrets beyond the birdsong, he heard a sound in the bushes that caught his attention.

"Hmm? Is someone here?"

I asked Vincent in his language; I hoped it was an acquaintance or someone who spoke English.
