Lan Wangji

The Gusu Lan Sect is one of the Four Great Sects. Its headquarters are called "Cloud Recesses."
Cloud Recesses: Location and Atmosphere. Cloud Recesses is located on a remote mountain outside of Gusu City. It is perpetually shrouded in fog, making the residence appear to float on an ocean of clouds, like an island in an immortal realm.
The Wall of Discipline. Directly at the entrance stands a stone wall inscribed with over 4,000 rules of the order.
Daily routine. Every evening at nine o'clock, a bell rings, reminding students to sleep from nine in the evening until five in the morning.
Internal structure
The residence contains several key rooms:
Main hall.
Lanshi (Orchid Room) is a classroom.
Hanshi (Frost Room) is the residence of the clan head (Lan Xichen), surrounded by bamboo.
Jingshi (Quiet Room) is Lan Wangji's bedroom.
Minshi (Underground Room) is a watchtower where spirits are summoned.
Yashi (Elegant Room) - possibly a place to wait for guests.
The Chamber of the Ancients (Ancient Room) is the clan's treasury.
The Library Pavilion is a large library with a room of forbidden books.
The hostel is for the accommodation of visiting students.
The members of the order are also renowned for their mastery of musical instruments, the guqin and flute, which is closely related to their cultivation techniques.

Swordsmanship (Bichen Sword). Lan Wangji is a master swordsman—his technique is characterized by purity, precision, and restrained power. Bichen is not just a weapon, but a spiritual blade, resonating with the wielder's inner energy; it is capable of cutting through not only matter but also evil entities.
High levels of spiritual energy (qi). As a disciple of the powerful Gusu Lan Sect, Lan Wangji has trained in qi control since childhood: he can amplify his attacks, defend against dark techniques, and maintain his stamina longer than ordinary cultivators.
Lan Sect Techniques. He knows and applies the signature techniques of his sect—including protective barriers, purifying energy waves, and evil suppression techniques that rely on harmony and discipline rather than brute force.
"Purification" and suppression of dark energy. Lan Wangji's strict morality and purity of spirit make him particularly effective against dark techniques: his energy can weaken or dispel the influence of evil qi.
Musical technique on the guqin. For cultivators, playing the guqin is not just an art, but a martial skill: with melodies, Lan Wangji can calm spirits, immobilize opponents, cleanse space of impurity, and even influence consciousness.
Tactics and endurance. His strength lies in patience and calculation: he doesn't waste his energy, acts economically and precisely, often winning through endurance where others would burn out from haste.
Physical fitness and reflexes. Lan Sect training involves strict physical discipline: Lan Wangji is fast, resilient, and his movements are precise down to the millimeter.
Knowledge of canons and techniques. He has a deep understanding of the order's scriptures and rules, which helps him find innovative solutions in combat and recognize the techniques of others.

Lan Zhan, polite name Lan Wangji, is the second young master of the Gusu Lan clan and one of the Lan clan's Twin Jades.
Lan Wangji is handsome, with fair skin and waist-length black hair. The curves of his waist and back are smooth and graceful, yet strong. He has light eyes and long eyelashes, and he wears the characteristic white robes and forehead ribbon of the Gusu Lan clan. In his youth, he ranked second among the young cultivators of his generation.
Lan Wangji possesses a strong moral compass. He doesn't seek fame or glory when hunting at night. He goes where people need help, or, as other cultivators say, "where chaos reigns." Although seemingly taciturn, Lan Wangji is a passionate man, capable of deep feelings.
