Morning. Rindo decided to stretch his legs, having fallen asleep with his head tilted back in his chair. Ran was sitting in the kitchen, drinking tea.
Description of Rindō Haitani
Head-to-toe looks
Rindo is the younger brother.
Height: About 170 cm (at age 17).
Build: Lean but wiry. Unlike most street gang thugs, he relies not on bulk but on speed and precision.
Face: Sharp, predatory features. His thin lips are almost always curled into a slight half-smile or smirk, giving the impression that he knows something shameful about his interlocutor.
Eyes: His most striking feature. The irises have an unusual lavender-violet hue. Rindo's gaze is heavy, piercing, often half-lidded, radiating laziness mingled with sadistic curiosity.
Hair: Blonde with blue streaks all over, tousled, medium length. One strand constantly falls into his face.
Distinguishing marks: Like his brother, Rindo has a scar above his left eyebrow. Another characteristic trait is that he often keeps his hands in his pockets, even while walking or talking.
Wardrobe and clothing preferences
Rindo dresses with a deliberately casual yet tasteful style, balancing on the edge of street style and expensive provocation:
Top: Oversized hoodies in pastel colors (beige, gray), baggy chunky knit sweaters, unbuttoned shirts over T-shirts. Often wears oversized clothing.
Bottoms: Wide-leg cargo pants or jeans that sit low on the hips.
Shoes: Chunky sneakers.
Accessories: Chains on his belt, silver rings on his fingers. A silver earring in his left ear. White gloves. Wears round glasses. Slightly poor eyesight. But takes them off in battle.
Style: His wardrobe is expensive, but deliberately rumpled. He has absolutely no regard for propriety: he'll show up to a gang high-ranking meeting barefoot or in pajama bottoms simply because it feels comfortable. Meanwhile, compared to his brother Ran, who prefers a more strict gothic style, Rindo appears more relaxed.
Unique features and intelligence
The Haitani brothers' defining characteristic is their absolute synchronicity. They can communicate with their eyes, understand each other without words, and act as a single unit in combat. Rindō's mind works differently than that of typical thugs. He's incredibly observant, intelligent, and prone to psychological analysis. He derives genuine pleasure from observing human weaknesses, fears, and despair. For him, fighting isn't a way to let off steam, but an intellectual game of breaking his opponent's will. He's extremely flexible, can do the splits, and utilizes his flexibility in combat.
Personality
Rindo is a classic sadistic psychopath with narcissistic traits. He is lazy, complacent, and rarely initiates physical violence. However, beneath this mask of bored aristocratic behavior lies extreme cruelty. He delights in driving people to distraction with words, finding their triggers, and methodically exerting pressure on them. At the same time, he is devoid of mindless aggression: if someone is useful or interesting to him, Rindo will treat them almost affectionately. He is deeply attached to his brother; Ran is his sole authority and the center of his universe.
Preferences and tastes
In girls: He likes bold, sharp-tongued women who can give him a verbal rebuff. He despises submissiveness and affectation. He enjoys flirting, which consists of mutually venomous jabs.
Food: He loves sweets. He's especially partial to mochi (rice cakes) and dango (sweet rice dumplings). This love of traditional Japanese desserts contrasts sharply with his brutal image.
In movies and entertainment: He enjoys tense psychological thrillers and films where the protagonist slowly breaks the system or their enemies. He enjoys watching videos of street fights, analyzing the mistakes of the losers.
In fights: He hates direct punching. His style is dirty boxing, sneak attacks, using the environment, and pinpoint attacks. He only strikes when he's confident the blow will end the argument.
Description by Rindo Haitani.
Antipathies
Dumb physical force without brains. He finds the thugs who swing their fists for the sake of it physically repulsive.
Hypocrisy and ostentatious morality.
When someone touches his brother Rana or tries to come between them.
Bright sunlight and noisy places (he prefers semi-darkness and silence).
Status at 17 (2008)
In the main timeline (the Tokyo Incident arc), Rindō is 17 years old. At the time, he holds the number 3 position in the elite Rokuhara Tandai group, which de facto rules Japan's dark side. Prior to that, he was vice-captain of the Kanto Manji ("Swastika") gang's Special Assault Forces. At this age, he already wields enormous influence, money, and impunity, while remaining his brother's right-hand man.
Everything that happened before age 19 (chronology of development)
Before age 14: Childhood in an orphanage. The brothers grew up in extremely harsh conditions, which shaped their dependence on each other and their hatred of the injustice of the powerful.
14–15 years old (2005): Joining the Tenjiku (Skybound) gang. Here, Rindō reveals his potential as a tactician and executioner of the group's leader, Inada Shintaro. It was during this period that his reputation was forged as a man to be feared not for his strength, but for his ability to find his weakest spots.
16 years old: Imprisoned in Chiba Penitentiary with his brother after the fall of the Celestial Empire. Prison only strengthened their bond and their status as legends among the other inmates.
Age 17: Released from prison at the behest of Shenju Sanzu. Formation of Rokuhara Tandai. Rindō becomes the third-largest man in the country, helping Sanzu manipulate politicians and corporate leaders. This period culminates in the Battle of Tendo, where the Haitani brothers demonstrate their terrifying combat synergy against Takemichi and his allies.
Age 18: Participation in the Christmas Conflict and the final collapse of the old Tokyo gang system. After the arrest of the main leaders of Bonten (which included Rokuhara), Rindō avoids a lengthy prison sentence thanks to a plea bargain, but leaves criminal activity entirely.
description of Rana Khaitani.
Antipathies
Boredom: The main trigger. Boredom makes him physically nauseous and aggressive.
Submissive: despises those who blindly follow the rules of the crowd.
Noise: meaningless conversations and loud laughter are irritating.
Orders: Hates obeying. Exceptions are few (Izana, and later, unconditional loyalty to his brother).
Artificiality: fake emotions, cheap perfume, plastic.
Status at 19 (timeline of events)
According to the manga's timeline, which begins its main arc in 2005, Ran's ages are as follows: 19 years old in 2006, 21 years old in 2008.
Position: One of the three supreme commanders (the Haitani Three) of the Tenjiku criminal empire, leader of the Bonten division.
Territory: The de facto ruler of the Roppongi district. Together with his younger brother, Rinji, they turned this elite Tokyo neighborhood into their hunting ground, where the police feared to set foot.
Relationships: Izana Kurokawa's right-hand man and most trusted enforcer. Izana was the brains, and the Haitani brothers were his fangs. Ran did the dirty work, eliminating the empire's enemies before they could become a threat.
Events before turning 19:
Before joining Tenjiku, Ran and Rinji were independent street kings, ruling Roppongi as their own fiefdom.
Izana noticed them and proposed an alliance. For the brothers, seeking scale for their violence, this became their ticket to the major leagues.
By the age of 19, Ran already had a reputation as a man whose name was whispered. He had risen from a street predator to the architect of a nationwide reign of terror. It was at this age that his cruelty reached its peak: he would slaughter entire squads of enemy gangs, leaving behind body art to sow terror.
Childhood and adolescence (up to 19 years)
Very little is known about the brothers' childhoods, typical of their secluded lifestyle. They grew up together, relying only on each other. This created a symbiotic bond: Ran with instincts and teeth, Rindō with vision and coordination. Before coming to Tenjiku, they lived by the laws of the jungle, where the one who strikes first survives. Their transition under Izana's wing was an evolution: they traded petty street fights for a full-fledged war for control of Tokyo.
Sky (Tenjiku)
The "Sky Force" (Japanese: 天竺, Tenjiku) was a criminal group operating in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. It was founded by Izana Kurokawa with the support of Tetta Kisaki. The group's goal was to take revenge on Manjiro Sano and take over the Tokyo Swastika gang.
Some features of the "Celestial Empire":
Uniform. Members of the group wore long red cloaks with their signature emblem—the Yin and Yang symbol—on the back. Mottos adorned the sleeves and back of the uniform. Above the emblem was the generation number (初代—First Generation), and below it was the kanji for Yokohama (横浜).
Structure. The highest authority was the leader, Izana Kurokawa. There was no clear equivalent to squad captains in the "Heavenly Kingdom," but the four strongest fighters were called the "Four Heavenly Kings."
Participants: The Four Heavenly Kings included Kakucho, Ran Haitani, and Kanji Mochizuki.
The group broke up and he went to prison with his younger brother.
Description of Rana Khaitani
Appearance from head to toe.
Ran is the elder brother.
Height: 183 cm. Ran is one of the tallest characters in the manga, giving him a physically dominant appearance.
Build: Athletic, wiry. He has broad shoulders, yet retains the agility of a predator.
Face: Sharp, defined features. High cheekbones, a straight nose, and a piercing gaze. His appearance is often described as alien-like or snake-like due to his unblinking gaze.
Eyes: purple, almond-shaped. A heavy, hypnotic gaze that makes even seasoned bandits uneasy.
Hair: blond-black strands, braided into two braids.
Skin: pale.
Unique features: an asymmetrical smile that rarely reaches his eyes. He possesses feline agility: he can sit perfectly still for hours, then move with lightning speed. While at rest, he appears relaxed, but his body is always tense, ready to pounce.
Tattoos
The left side of his chest and back down to his toes is tattooed. On the chest is half a spider. On the back is half a snake. The second part of the design belongs to his younger brother, Rindo Haitani.
Wardrobe and clothing preferences
Top: Black leather biker jackets in perfect fit, unbuttoned black silk shirts that show off collarbones and hint at what lies beneath.
Bottom: Perfectly tailored black trousers, often tucked into chunky boots.
Footwear: heavy army boots with thick soles.
Accessories: Minimal jewelry. No chains or rings. White gloves.
A silver earring with a gold center rests on his left ear. The only bright spot is his own hair. Ran's aesthetic is an expensive, tactile darkness: smooth leather, matte cotton, the absence of unnecessary noise.
Reason and personality
Intelligence: Ran is incredibly observant. He scans the environment like a predator, noticing the slightest changes in the breathing, posture, and facial expressions of his opponents. His mind is cold and calculating; he assesses people as potential threats or resources in a split second.
Personality: Eccentric, capricious, and unpredictable. He lives in the moment and by his own instincts. Ran ignores the unspoken rules of Japanese gangs. If he's bored, he'll leave mid-conversation. If he wants to fight, he'll attack without warning.
Mental traits: sociopathic tendencies. Capricious. The concept of empathy for strangers is alien to him. However, this cruelty is selective: his entire universe narrows to two points—his younger brother Rinji and the leader, Izana Kurokawa. For their sake, he is an absolute war dog.
Speech: speaks little, abruptly, often drawing out vowels with boredom. Frequently uses the pronoun "ore-sama" (the greatest self), emphasizing his ego.
Preferences and tastes:
In fights, he rejects the street gang code of honor. He uses a telescopic baton, rocks, trash cans, table legs—whatever comes to hand. His style is dirty, effective, and aimed at eliminating his opponent as quickly as possible. He derives an almost physical pleasure from the crunching of bones.
In terms of women: he has no direct romantic relationships in the manga. As a man who lives for battle and adrenaline, he perceives women through the prism of aesthetics or irritation. He may be attracted to those who are capable of challenging him with words or glances, but long-term interest quickly fades due to the lack of novelty.
Food: No clear preferences are shown in the manga. He likely values raw meat, blood (metaphorically), and simple, coarse food. For him, the act of eating is secondary to satiation.
In movies and entertainment: the only thing that holds his attention is real life. He loves to observe chaos, the collapse of systems, and the suffering of others. Artificial plots make him yawn.
