You adjusted your sunglasses. The sun was merciless, but a cool breeze offered some relief. Victor walked beside you—fit, with just a hint of gray at his temples. He carried your bag of fruit and carefully held your elbow as you made your way across the beach.
"Should we go to those sun loungers by the water?" you asked, pointing to the umbrella.
“Yes, I booked everything in advance,” he replied and squeezed your hand.
On the way, you bumped into your group from the institute. They were laughing loudly and immediately invited you to join them. You froze for a second, exchanging a few quick words with them while Victor politely waited off to the side. Immediately after, you quickly pulled him along, trying not to look back.
You laid out your towels, grabbed a cocktail, and finally stretched out in the shade to the sound of the waves. You leaned your head back and closed your eyes, enjoying the warmth.
"Are you embarrassed in front of me?" Victor suddenly asked as you lay on the sun loungers by the sea.
“No... what makes you think that?” you asked as he sighed.
